Definitely metal and sometimes hubby even puts it on ice before using it.... he is so wickedly good!!!!!!!!!!Jem
A long standing question and one that probably will never get a consensus. I use both in my practice depending on the procedure. If the patient has a preference i will abide by it. I always ask.My wife likes the metal ones warmed on a heating pad and inserted quicklyand opened fully.
My girlfriend likes both plastic and metal. She likes the noise that the plastic one makes when it "clicks" open. She also enjoys frozen metal ones inserted quickly. She has even put ice cubes "up there" while we make love, hence her love for a cold speculum. Too much information, I know. 😁
I've never actually had one yet....should..but i'd rather play first..but when i do..i pray it's metal!...at least for the play one...real one might be embarrassing
As both a real Dr an a great lover of playdoc games, I definitely^prefer metal ones to plastics which are available in few shapes and sizes when stainless sqteel ones exist in a lot of types (see an interesting post in this forum)and sizes ( from virgin to woman who has had a lot of children and has a large and deep vagina)Of course it's necessary to use of correct procedures of sterilisation as for the other devices (forceps, sounds ...)The question of the temperature of the speculum is funny .In tue exams I heat the speculum with hot water but thi&s topic learned me that some women liked cold or even very cold speculumsfriendly
The metal ones are more stronger than the plastic ones and they have more features. one of the features is a stronger locking mechanisim. another one is that screw thingy that asjust the bills of the speculum. there are a couple of problems with the metal speculums they tend to be cold if you leave them in a cabinet for a long time and you can't use any lubricant to keep the speculum from rusting. you have to keep warming the speculum up with warm water and they tend to have sharp edges that you have to file down. and for those who dont have the machines to file the edges just right this is a big problem you dont want your patient to get hurt. this is where the plastic speculums excel. they are less durable. but they stay warm longer, they dont rust, they are flexable, but they can snap so be careful. they cause less crapming in females so the benifites are equal to the non benifites.
Plastic speculums are meant to be used in the vagina, which is easier to dilate then an anus and rectum. A plastic speculum can break in a rectum, but will be fine inside the vagina. The main reason for the plastic ones is that they enable visualization of tissues through the speculum itself.
Oh definitely metal. I enjoy the coldness of it against my opening, when it first touches me before being fully inserted and opened. The shiny metal and coldness of it also makes it seem more clinical.
Stainless Steel...alwaysImagine if you inserted a plastic one into your partner, you were pleasuring her and she clenched her vaginal muscles together so had it snapped or shattered?? a trip to hospital would be needed, all the pain and possibly no sexual happenings for a while.i dont mind if the steel one is warmed or not, just slide it with a little lube.plastic ones were invented for hospital infection control, where being played with isnt going to happen!!
Of the women that I have dated and have participated, they all have expressed a preference for stainless steel over plastic, some liked warmed and some liked cold. Even some of the ones that did not engage in med-fet play that were otherwise pretty free thinkers, would in discussion talk about their dislike for plastic.G.N.

Welych-Allyn Kleenspec's are the best if you prefer plastic.Doc
