Infusion

Hi

Can anyone offer an opinion on whether there might be any health risks associated with a saline solution (0.9%) infusion of about 1000ml in the scrotum. I am thinking with regard to the absorbtion of the solution rather than a phsical or infection risk.

Problems = electrolyte imbalance, risk of cardiac problems, tissue necrosis, loss of a/or both testicles, dislocation of the penis, never being able to pee again except through an ostomy bag, never being able to have or sustain an erection again, the humiliation of having to tell the urogenital surgeon that all of this was brought on by a really stupid idea.

Solution = don't even think about it

Excellent reply Dr T, although it should be common sense especially for non qualified personnel sometimes it needs to be said. Let's hope your advice is heeded. Karma to you Dr T.

I'm sorry DrT, but where do you get your evidence from that infusion causes all that? I've never had it done myself but my playdoc does offer it and has infused other guys loads of times without a problem for any of them. I also know many that have had it done and am yet to hear of any repurcussions as a result of infusion.

I think the fact that Dr T is an actual medical professional would suggest she does know what she's talking about. The fact you're not aware of any problems associated with this procedure doesn't mean there haven't been any.

Dr T. is right in a medical way.

But all our kinks are a bit border line, have some risk, but some of us though it worst to be tried. In a way, it's like crossing the road. In most case, there is few risk, but accidents is a big risk.

I disagree. Not all "our kinks" are borderline and some have virtually no risk as far as I'm aware. Auscultation for example, no risk involved in that as far as I can see at any rate.

If someone wishes to indulge in a procedure which might cause a real medical problem, then that is of course their choice and their right. My point is if the outcome such a procedure causes the recipient to have to seek medical help then it's an unnecessary strain on the health service.

If the service has to be paid for then I guess it's just profit for the health care provider who gives the medical assistance.

What I would like to say, is that a lot of us have borderline practices (I'm the first) and sure, few have or had some medical "side effect"...

Sure it can cost to insurance or health services... I can't (and wont) say that's normal or good. In my case I'd once (in more than 20years) a problem after a play session, so had took on me, and paid all. Yes, I know, it can be very expensive, and can be a life trauma, but on more time, without any risk, we will do nothing.

It is of course for the individual to choose what's right for them and I'm certainly not suggesting otherwise. The fact that a medical professional reports such procedures can lead to serious problems should be respected.

My point being if it causes a problem for someone other than the recipient then maybe it was an unwise choice. Each to his or her own choice.

So is my playdoc, 17 years experience. I suppose if you know how to do it safely and following sterile procedure and only using IV grade saline, which my playdoc does then there shouldn't really be a problem.

I completely agree that everyone has a right to decide for themselves whether or not they wish to proceed with any activity. It's called "informed consent" and should be the standard of care regardless of whether you're a playdoc or on in real life.

All I was attempting in my previous post was to provide the information requested. Whether I'm seeing patients or playing around with my favorite "kinks", that standard doesn't change

I'm not about to risk my hard earned medical license for anything extreme ...& even in play, I wouldn't even entertain infusing 1000cc of any fluid into someones scrotum ...with the POTENTIAL of doing harm. My code of ethics, personal and professional doesn't change when I leave my office @ the end of the day. 12 yrs of college/grad school/post grad work and 20+ yrs of earning my reputation isn't worth wasting on kink.

Rocdoc, life is full of unwise choices, smoking, drinking, overeating, participation in sports, to name but a few socialy acceptable ones.

Dr T is right on the money with this one. Everyone is free to choose but when the potential consequences are so high, to more than think about is just plain crazy. Since I have seen penile and scrotal gangrene and necrosis following IV injection of cocaine in the dorsal vein of the penis I can only shudder at the thought. (The patient ended up dying.) As an ER doc I would hate to see this case and would resent having to take care of it. I would of course take care of it, but keep these thoughts fantasy and not reality. Be careful what you wish for! As Deb girl says have fun and play safe.
