Svensson,
I agree that they are not the same thing. I think one reminded me of the other.
I was talking with my Dad this evening, and mentioned the subjects. He reminded me that his grandmother had had three NDEs in her long life. I was ten when she died, and did not hear her story first hand, but here is what he related to me.
She was 22 and married for only a few months in 1908 when she suffered appendicitis. During the recovery following surgery she slipped away while her husband was holding her hand. She recalled leaving her body, and seeing her husband rise and run down the hospital corridor to get the doctor. She watched the doctor get up from his desk, start to come, and stop and go back for his stethoscope. She saw the light so often described by others, and was met by her own father who had died earlier. He told her it was not yet her time, and she had to go back. She said that going back into her body was "uncomfortable" but then was happy to see the loving look of joy on her husband's face when he realized she was alive. .
Ten years later, in the great influenza pandemic of 1918, she succumbed and left her body. She once again saw what people were doing around her, and things happening outside the building. She saw the light and felt indescribable love, and was disappointed when she was "sent back" to her sick body. Dad knew fewer details about this experience.
At the other end of her life, when she was 95, she had an OBE when she flatlined while undergoing colon cancer surgery. She left her body, and saw and heard the conversation in the surgical suite about her being just too old to make it. The surgeon, bless his heart, zapped her with the paddles and re-started her heart. She lived two more love-filled years.
How I wish I could talk to her now and get details.
Hugs,
Diane
