My brother is going to be participating in winter sports, and he brought over a physical exam form from school to fill out the history form. Supposedly, the form has an option to check whether or not the parent gives permission for the school nurse to do the sports physical exam. But as I was glancing through it, there was some interesting paragraph.

As part of the HSP, complete head to toe physical examination may be performed with no charge by our school's NP, by parental request. You also have the option to have the examination done by your family physician.
Parents, if you wish to schedule a physical examination for your student, this may be done by calling the main office or submitting the attached permission form. Examinations take place in the nurse's office, and student will be given a pass to be excused from class at the time the examination will take place. The examination will be done in private.
FOR MALE STUDENTS:
A third party, either the secondary ARNP or parent, must be present for all male students under the age of 18 being examined. The student will be asked to remove all clothing except underwear. The examination WILL INCLUDE the external genitalia, testicle and a hernia exam. For those participating in contact sports will also be given a tanner scaling.
FOR FEMALE STUDENTS:
Breast or genital examination will NOT be performed. However, we recommend them come to the school on the day on the examination wearing a T-shirt (as opposed to a button shirt) to facilitate the auscultation examination of the heart and lungs.

I was a bit surprised by this. It seems like girls don't have to take off any clothing, but boys are to strip down to underpants. Also, I thought breast development and cancer screening was important also in females.
