Upcoming G. I. Surgery...... Many Concerns. Anyone Been Through This??

Well, after 46 years of Crohn's disease, I have to have surgery. About 1 year ago, they found some low lever displaysia in the ascending colon, where I have Crohns. Went to a specialist at MT. Sinai and he removed it with a procedure called EMR. Had another colonoscopy last month, G.I. Doc did >62 biopsy snips in affected area & two came up problematic. One high level diaplaysia, another, full blown carcinoma. The good news is they are VERY early, Very small and neither have penetrated the innermost lining of mucosa. Also not near deep enough penetration to be near lymph nodes.

Will be having a partial colectomy very soon at MT. Sinai, THE place to be for Crohn's related surgery. They will take about 8-10" of ascending colon along with the last eight or so inches of the small bowel. where there is also Crohn's involvement. I'll have to be on some heavy duty drugs to prevent the return of Crohn's. Surgeon says after things are fully healed, there should be little if any lifestyle change. I hope he is right.

Anyone dealing with a similar situation, losing part of the colon? How has it affected your lifestyle? Can you still enjoy a "good enema"? I'm worried about what's coming on several levels and just want it to be over with. I do know that I'm in good hands, having it done at one of the best hospitals for this type surgery, by a world famous surgeon that doesn't have an inflated ego. Bye Bye 401K :
