My advice would be to avoid laxatives and suppositories. Usually they contain chemicals (that is how the pharmaceutical companies make their money)and harsh concentrated herbal mixes. It must stand to reason that the body resents laxatives because it reacts against them by eliminating. They irritate the lining of the bowel and probably the stomach too. Prolonged use can reduce their effect and make the condition worse.
So what about enemas? Personally, I really enjoy them so perhaps I am biased but, thinking about it, they simply fill the lower intestine with warm saline water (one teaspoon to a pint) and they can be controlled by the operator according to the wishes of the patient. They can be done slowly and if the clamp is only slightly opened, the flow is very gentle. They can be stopped and restarted on request and massaging can enhance the effect and eliminate any slight cramping that can occur. Also, of course, enemas are instantaneous, no hanging around waiting to dash to the toilet the next day.
Many people resent enemas because they think them embarrassing and dirty and possibly messy. But in truth, the majority of people, if they dismiss the embarrassment and relax, ie "give in" to the enema, will find it quite a pleasant experience if it is administered very gently. But do not expect any pleasure from medical administration which is quick and insensitive.
So is there a danger with enemas? Yes, there are dangers in everything. I understand that an enema a day can lead to dependence. Other dangers are tearing the delicate colon lining by being too hasty or rough, doing an enema while drunk or tipsy, using a hard nozzle without lubrication, mixing dangerous stuff with the enema water and using water too hot or cold.
The anal canal is the most sensitive part of the body and can give pain as well as pleasure. There is very little feeling in the rectum or colon beyond the anal canal so injury to the rectum wall can easily occur. Sometimes inserting a soft rubber tube well up, ie about 12 inches, into the colon will enable more water to be accepted before any sign of fullness but let water flow slowly while gently inserting two inches up and one back.
I am not a doctor or medically trained person so the above must be viewed accordingly. I hope I may have been of some help.
