Graham, you are quite a good writer. Have you ever written any E stories (fantasy, or true)?

For those who want to keep the tradition alive, it turns out that one of my local supermarkets has a 3-pack of Ivory bars on sale for a dollar. Maybe other retail chains have the same. Cheap medicine!

While I never was a big "Ivory Man", I will say that I don't care for the 'new & improved' Ivory of today. There has to be some extra ingredients that wasn't in it before. There is so much soap scum from it that remains in the bag or glass percolator. Our city water isn't that hard, as other soaps don't do this. For my soaps, I have pretty much gone to goats milk soaps from indigowild.com in KC,MO.

It is up to what each individual likes, but Ivory ain't the same as it used to be. Look for old bars in old stores in small towns if you want the real Ivory.

I once got a series of enemas with a Higginson syringe, for worms. This was in the mid 1950s & proscribed by the local MD & given by my mum.. It was first a soap and water 'cleanout", followed by an enema made by boiling the Quassa bark in a cheese cloth and once cooled, injecting about a point and holding for 10 minutes or so. Went on over 10 days or so. I remember getting quite erect on several occasions but had to wait a few years to experience an orgasm with the red rubber, white nozzle, Higginson syringe. Soon after my enemas stopped! What a disappointment! Still love a good Higginson enema to this day!

My mother gave me a regular soapsuds till I was 14. But, I don't remember what kind of soap she used. She also gave me tap water enemas too

Ivory soap was always the mainstay in our house. Mom did not have to announce that it was enema time, the fragrance of the Ivory let you know, what was about to happen.

My mother gave lots of different types of enemas but her favorite was the good old Ivory soap enema with baking soda. she would give me these enemas until the return was clear .She also gave me high enemas when I was about 14 or so. My grand mother also gave me enemas and she also gave high enemas

Almost always soap for us. I do have a side question for the guys. Did you ever have probems with errections during and enema? I remember hat my older brother would when he was younger and mom would make him have a second one as punishment.

In our house soetimes dad would give them too. Mom wold be headed out for the eening shift and leave orders for dad to get it done. dad was much gentler than mom. Even when my brother would get an errection he said dad never yelled or gave him an additional one like mom. With me he was much better at massagine my belly when I was cramping, though he made you hold it in longer. When I was much older I realised that dad must have enjoyed these sessione because I could somethmes feel him getting hard, and I would "accidently" squirm to make it worse. When we were done he would ofetn "need quiet time" in the bathroom LOL. BTW dad was not above getting mom's wrath receiving his own enema.

Growing up we used Dial soap in the shower or bath, but my mother kept a bar of Ivory in the linen closed next to the syringe and it was used only for enemas. You would open the linen closet door and the first thing you would smell would be that bar of Ivory. She would use a 1 quart saucepan from the kitchen to make a soapy solution, pour it into the bag, and then fill it the rest of the way with warm water.

It was only Ivory soap in our household. Probably because it was the least expensive, non-laundry, bar soap available during the days of Fair Trade pricing (retail price printed on the product by the manufacturer.) Mom bought the bath sized bar and broke it in two, one for the lav and one for the bathtub. Bar slivers went into a peanut butter jar (then made out of glass) partially filled with water, that sat on the window sill above the tub. That soap mucus, as I called it, was added to the enema bag for an enema.

Presently, both of us: Ivory soap making the enema slightly milky, used because of memories of the scent of ivory combined with red rubber; Dr. Bronners Castile peppermint and baby wash soaps, sea salt, baking soda or a combination of salt & soda. For retention, one quart given at a meer trickle for up to a half hour making retention easy: Coffee, Chamomile Tea, Catnip tea, wine diluted 1 part wine, 4 parts water x 8 for a 40-oz enema. Wine enemas are usualy take by us at the same time, while snuggled up and "playfull".

It sounds like how I grew up, as enemas were always given, and the bag hung on the bathroom door.

Thinking back to my hospital stay in 1960 for appendix,the second day I had an attack of pain while on the toilet,and was operated on a short time later. I think that if I hadent had that attack, they would have given me enemas till clear followed by a Barium enema to find out why there was pain and constipation. wish I could go back and experience it......

Usually, Mom gave me plain tap water enemas. I liked them ok. But one day at school l overheard some of my friends, both male and female, talking about enemas, I listened. They were talking about ivory soap enemas with soap. I had never had one. So, the next time Mom was getting ready to give me one, I asked her about soap being put into the enema water and maybe a little salt as well. Mom looked at me as if I had a screw loose and told me "no, Mike, I have never heard of such a thing." I went on and told Mom that several of my friends at school were talking about enemas their mothers gave them and most of them said there mothers used Ivory and salt. I then asked Mom to please give me one. Again, Mom looked at me like I had a screw loose and proceeded to give me my normal warm, tap water enema. I did not give up, though. For several weeks I pleaded with Mom to give me an Ivory soap, salt water enema. Mom ignored my requests. Then, on a Saturday morning a couple of weeks later, Mom woke me up and pulled me into my bathroom where she had prepared for me a "hot", "soapy", and "salty" enema. I loved it and Mom never again just gave me a plain, tap water enema. I asked her why and she told me that she had talked with our doctor and that he encouraged her to use that formula instead of plain tap water. I guess I was lucky that I overheard my friends at school.

My parents always used soap, but I do not know if they used salt, too. I just use tap water.

At our house enemas were always soapy and the soap was always Ivory. For washing and bathing we used Zest, but it had to be Ivory for an enema. I once got a one day reprieve when we didn't have a bar of Ivory in the house. I remember overhearing my mom tell my dad that I hadn't had a bowel movement for two days and that she needed to use the syringe on me, but we didn't have any Ivory soap. I felt a sense of relief but it was short lived. The next day on his way home from work he picked up a bar of Ivory soap and that evening my mom got out the bulb syringe and went to work on me. I probably got a bigger syringing than normal because of the day's delay. The soapy enemas were always followed by a plain water rinse enema equal in volume to that of the soapy enema. Ivory always brought about the desired results and apparently my mom wanted to stick with a tried and true method.

I recall that ivory soap was used in the majority of enemas given by Mom. She always gave two enemas as much as you could take ( in her opinion, not mine). However, I do remember baking soda used in some enemas and Epsom salts in some. Not sure of the reasons for each. I was never given a warning when an enema was coming. I would be sitting there or still laying in bed and Mom would suddenly show up holding a full bag and a towel and telling me to get into her bedroom. No amount of begging would stop the process. I would take my bottoms off and lay on my back for the enemas.

This is about Ivory, I was asked a question about the Super Soap Enemas my mother gave me.

The super soap enemas were made from a bar of ivory soap. Mom would use a Pyrex pot she would fill with water, bring to a boil, drop in a bar of Ivory soap that would disolve into gel. She then poured it into a jar, so she could spoon it out when she needed it. Usually it was a teaspoon in the bag of water, but if she felt you were really backed up it might a several teaspoons

Now I could hold a regular ivory soap enema just fine, usually for several minutes, "so it could work." That was always part of the ritual, having to hold the soapy enema so it would work. It was never as much of a deal with the rinses.

Well the super soap enemas would make me feel like I had to go long before the bag was empty. Now you have to remember I really liked enemas, so I was going to try to take it all. But the super soapers were hard to take, so there were two things mom would try. Either hold the bag up very high so it would all rush in, or give me small amounts, stopping the flow frequently. To be honest, I liked either method, all though the fast fill was easier to take but harder to hold, so mom would have a wad of toilet paper she would the hold against my anus to help me hold it. There usually would come a time where it was all I could do to hold it even with the plug, followed by a time when the urge would die down a bit, and I would tell her I could make it to the toilet. Even then she would be with me to help,me hold it in, not removing the wad of toilet paper until I was on the John. On more than one occasion she actually pushed the paper up me, but one on the toilet I would try to hold until I just exploded. I loved that feeling because I know chunks and all were all going to explode out, and I just loved that feeling.

When it was done as repeated small amounts of solution, over a fairly long period of time I was allowed to go as soon as the bag was empty, while it was still explosive it never felt quite as good, and with the slow fill it was not uncommon for me to have a little leakage.

As an adult when I found the Ez-Em Super Set ups with the large diameter tubing I found I could repeat that childhood fast fill, very full feeling by hanging the bag high and using a strong soap solution. While I often use Castille soap now, I always love that special Ivory fragrance.

In my youth it was Ivory soap or a plain castle soap of various brands.

It was common that mom would simply take the bar of soap on the sink- whatever it was- and slosh it around and around in the red rubber, open-top enema until it was milky. Sometimes the bar soap would be LUX [very harsh] and other times it was DIAL. She never used Ivory soap.

My enemas were always soapy water, followed by plain warm water, nothing else.

As most have mentioned here, it was the Ivory soap... I even remember the smell... 😃

I think glycerine was a close second ,followed by Epsom salts. These seem to be the ones mentioned in most medical books and disscusions!

Everything not actually fatal was used at some point. Also, some enemas DO result in Darwin Awards, so if you don't know what you are doing stick to soap.

Ivory soap suds was my most common enema but mom would some times use Epsom salts. I don't know how she decided what to use.

Good old Ivory. For many of us it seems to be a common thread about those early enemas. I can easily relate to the scent of Ivory soap filling the bathroom as my mom prepared the soapy solution that would soon be squirting up inside of me.

Baking soda.

For me, as a young child, it was only a warm Ivory soap suds enema. Feels as good today, as it did back then!

Mom always used Ivory soap. She would fill the sink with warm water and rub the bar across her hands to make it very sudsy. Then several good bulb syringes for me and a good 10 minute hold.
