Well Ophelia I have to agree with Aussie with this
Ophelia^^^ I have to say that is a very one-eyed statement....I've known a number of Male physicians over the years & believe me they are fine examples of the medical profession, with reputations to match....
and with niknoks
My two favourite consultants are male . Even if there was no chaperone present I would still feel comfortable being alone with them as they are both very professional .
I have taken the rectal temperature of female patients alone ( I"m Male ) and they have always been comfortable with me doing this procedure. I have always and I will stress always afforded then the choice of a female nurse or chaperone I would say 95% of the time they refuse both, for those that want either a female nurse or chaperone its their choice and I respect that 100%. My job is all about being professional, caring, compassionate and supportive and if a patient wants a female nurse or is more comfortable with a female I understand that fully and never take that decision personally. I will add that due to the critical nature of their condition, I at times are more concern with maintaining and preserving their modesty than they are.
There have been times when I know the patient is very uncomfortable ( as a lot of my nursing interventions involves some degree of exposure and nudity, I work in ITU (British version ICU) like auscultation, catheter care, bed baths, dressings, suture and drain removal etc) but have not voiced an objection, I simply "swap patients" with another female member of staff ( very easy to recognition from their non verbals). Because the less stress and anxiety they feel the better and faster their recovery during critical illness.
If you think that
Male doctors can be creepy. You never get to see the doctors facial expression when hes sliding a thermometer and suppositories into you
Then I would suggest that you change to a female doctor, as from what you have said
. My mom and sister were always there so im sure he kept it professional. He always was when my sister was on the table.
then it seems that you are uncomfortable with the exposure to a male doctor and not by his professionalism or lack of it as you said he was always with you and your sister and with your mum being present I sure she would have notice if he was acting unprofessional. Its also seems that you were not keen on rectal temperatures which may have been a causative factor.
