Looking for some input on hemorrhoids. This past year I went from no problems to recurring issues every couple of months. My guess is that it's been the years of "oh my, I'm constipated again. Well, I'll just wait and everything should straighten up" catching up with me. I have external ones that get thrombosed and may have internal ones as well, but if I do they're small. Here's what I know/heard so far, wondering what's accurate:
There's no point going to the doctor. It will be embarrassing and at the end she'll just say "you have hemorrhoids - eat more fiber, drink more water, don't let yourself get constipated (hmm... fat chance of that unless I stay on top of it big time), don't strain. If you want surgery I can refer you." I don't want surgery yet, but if I do it it seems as though everything would just start over again, right?
The enemas shouldn't make it worse, and might even make it better by keeping things moving. If I don't continue with periodic enemas I probably should go back to the very high dose Mirilax.
While it seems as though circulation issues may be a part they probably aren't, it's just that hemorrhoids are common, varicocele is common, and varicose veins are common so the three together would also be common. More likely is the ongoing constipation and possibly the muscular tension from the pelvic floor "dysfunction" (I guess that's technically what it is, but it's not nearly as bad as what that usually means). The latter has been mentioned but I haven't seen any good studies backing it up. Some websites even suggest anal play to help relax and loosen things up, but again I haven't seen anything backing it up.
The creams are merely palliative. I guess this would be a good thing, because I'm planning on riding out this next one (and possibly further) because I'm sick of being a complaining crybaby and it seems like it might be a good, benign way to work on dealing with mild/moderate pain, especially longer term pain as long as I don't complain. Furthermore there isn't a risk from them as long as I don't massage them, right?
