Usually the steth is cold only in first moments of stething(. In addition to this, many doctors doctors specially heat it before listehing(
Isn't it ironic that the non chill rim came out at a time when listening through clothing became the norm?
I tend to find that the anticipation of a warm stethoscope is generally less than that of a colder one.
I prefer them cold and lament the fact that most of them are warm nowadays. My new Sprague is cool, but not cold. It's better than warm, though!
I love being auscultated and much prefer a cold stethoscope. Sadly the majority of the time the stethoscope is room temperature so there's not that initial sharp intake of breath with the first placement.
My doctor's stethoscope has a little chill at first, just because it's metal, but it quickly adjusts to my body's temperature. I honestly don't mind the chill, in a way, it's relaxing, but it does cause my nipples to perk up.
Most of the times the stethoscopes aren't that cold anymore which is a little bit sad. But be it warm or cold, I absolutely enjoy both.
I have very few memories of cold ones. While I personally prefer a colder one, I think most of the time thereβs a ring of plastic to prevent chills to the patient. I always feel caught in the middle on this one, I like fancier stethoscopes, but they tend to have the non-chill rings.
I recently had someone listen to my heart with a MDF stethoscope. It was really nice, because it was a little cold at the beginning and the chestpiece was quite heavy so it was great.

But be it warm or cold, I absolutely enjoy both.Oh don't get me wrong, I still enjoy being stethed even if the stethoscope is warm. But I far prefer it if it's cold. The feel of cold metal on my skin if I'm already cold through sitting or standing there barechested or just in my boxers and then the sharp intake of breath just helps bring me to attention both down below and on my nipples. ?
I like both. feeling the warm chestpiece moving around feels really good. the cold ones are nice too, especially when they get warmer because of the body contact.@nisie88 do you know what MDF stethoscope it was? had it a metal ring?
Well I can't tell for sure, but it had 2 tubes and a heavy bell. It wasn't a metal ring it was like a littmann without the non chill ring π It felt really nice π
Like this one? https://www.amazon.ca/ProCardial%C2%AE-Cardiology-Adult-Pediatric-Stethoscope-convertible/dp/B00NVOMLRW/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1527535508&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=mdf+stethoscope&psc=1
This or an spraque type stethoscope like thishttps://www.amazon.ca/Rappaport-Stethoscope-Pediatric-convertible-chestpiece/dp/B0011E6DHI/ref=sr_1_1?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1527542414&sr=1-1&keywords=sprague+mdfit has a metal ring but the diaphragm stands out so you dont have direct contact with it.
@bbw4doc yes the tubings were a little different but the bell looks same π It felt really nice! That and the way she acted like a doctor was really, really awesome. I felt like a real patient and she was really caring and tried to calm me down and stroked my arm gently while I was lying there and she was listening to my heart πStill dreaming.. π
