Likesenemas,
I think enema use is on its way to a second zenith...with all those who are trying to lose weight these days and all the interest in keeping healthy, I can see it being almost as common as it was 60 years ago within another 10 years or so. Laxatives just aren't as safe or thorough (or convenient...except for that whole part where you insert the tube...lol) and never will be, and I really think people are starting to realize that, although in most cases, it goes by the terminology of "colonic irrigation/hydrotherapy" instead of "enema". Yes, I know these two terms have some difference, but the overall thought behind them is the same (water injected in the anus for cleaning out the colon and rectum). The real difference is the price: colon hydrotherapy is usually $60-$125 and you have to embarrass yourself at a clinic, while enemas are free (after the initial purchase of a bag and the cost of tap water and table salt, lol) and enjoyed in the comfort of your own home. And both really do have practically the same results if done right (take a series of bag enemas instead of one...its the same!).
Seriously, though, I really believe enemas are becoming acceptable again...I'd actually say the fact that they have been absent from the typical person's health regimen for all these decades is why we are, as a society, considered less healthy than people 50 years ago. I don't necessarily believe its just the processed/fast food doing it...its that we don't purge ourselves of it properly. But this is being noticed by many...I've noted a lot of newer dieting ideas involve an enema, and even more will come.
Really, the only reason they ever went "out of style" was the embarrassment factor...there are relatively no health risks (or, at least, none that are as bad as oral laxatives!) involved, so long as they are not overused (by overused I mean more than a couple time/week regularly). If you didn't have to bare your backside to someone, I swear they would still be commonplace...but people are slowly realizing this small inconvenience is just that...small, and overall health is more important than the possiblity of losing a little pride.
