The days of funnel and rectal tube mom was, obviously a holder, but when we advanced to the Davol Comfy open top bag, a hanger, from a towel bar.
But, if things were not going fast enough, she would lift the bag to increase the flow.
Toward the end of my enemas from mom days it was off the shower curtain rod, and some enemas went in at the flow rate of the hose. In other words, at the same speed as if it was just flowing out into the air.
Sometimes there was cramping and she would stop the flow, or slow it down. But I can remember how it felt when everything just opened up and I could savor the flow. In my later years I would get the same effect from the E-Z-Em Super set up with the larger diameter hose, 2,500 cc going in at hose speed!
Of course there were the ones where the clamp was bearly opened and it took what seemed like hours to fill, it all depended on mom’s mood. The slow flow always meant extended holding, which got turned into a game and I repeated as an older adult when I got into coffee enemas.
Years ago I got hold of some barium enema solution, took it at body temperature, and holding for extended periods, hours to overnight, because I loved to poop out the white barium turds.
When it was Janet’s mom giving the enemas, she was a holder, constantly changing the height of the bag for optimum flow, and if your colon got rebellious and the flow slowed way down or stopped the bag would be held high in the air. There were some enemas we got that were a challenge to not squirt, but I don’t either of us ever lost it, we just tightened up and held on.
And just as the bag emptied held high to “get it all in.”
