This is a fantasy clinic, right? Okay, here’s what I’d like to have (as a proprietoress), or to visit as a client; the “clinic” would have to be a small single-family home in a quiet established neighborhood, near the downtown area. There is a historic section in my town that has bungalows dating back to the 1920’s that are now “mixed use” properties. One of them would be perfect for my fantasy clinic. No outward signage as to what goes on inside, it must be discreet. When client walks in the front door, they would enter a nicely appointed reception area. Seated at an antique secretary desk, an attractive woman of indeterminate age (probably in her 30’s) would be waiting to greet them. In the warmer months, ceiling fans would be moving the air in a gentle, almost tropical breeze and in the winter, a fire would be burning in the fireplace. Clients would be invited to take a seat in one of the upholstered chairs, or on the sofa. My clinic would cater to couples so I think a sofa is appropriate. Even though this is a fantasy medical clinic, I don’t want there to be a hint of the medicinal upon entrance to the building. I want there to be a “spa” feeling, or one of a genteel upper middle class Southern home. Clients will never hear a phone ring, all appointments and business calls will be handled from an offsite location.
The receptionist would inquire as to whether client would like something to drink; coffee, tea (herbal or otherwise), water with a wedge of lemon or lime? If they accepted, their beverage would be served in china/glass. No plastic or Styrofoam here! She would then hand them a questionnaire to fill out. Clients can take as much time as they need to fill out the paperwork, there would be no feeling of being rushed. The receptionist would then collect the clipboards and take them to the play-docs or nurses in the staff room. When the client makes his/her/their appointment, they will be asked what their particular area of interest is so that the right staff member can be present for the examination and treatment.
The receptionist will return to escort the client/patient to the exam room where they will shortly be joined by the doctor or nurse specifically assigned to their case. At that time the particulars of the exam session will be discussed privately with the patient and consent and liability waivers will be executed.
The exam and treatment areas? Well that’s a completely different post!
Play On!
