(skip if you've read prior posts as it'll be "blah-de-blah")
I have IBS-C, and while it's mild/moderate it's difficult to manage and unpredictable (as if there was an IBS that wasnt?). I use enemas as a part of my management protocol along with adding fiber and Mirilax (yes, for me "just eat more fiber" is a myth even though I have heard it from too many doctors, and conversely just using enemas, while better than just more fiber, doesn't work well either. Yes, I've tried both ways.)
(you can start again)
I take them regularly but frequency does vary. I've been doing every 3 days when things are going well, and a couple of weeks ago I started upping that when things aren't going well instead of trying to be stoic. I'm currently coming off of about a week and a half of daily enemas (1x SSE, 1x tap water) and going into about 2 weeks of the same series every other day (assuming my bowels continue to cooperate). After that I'll be back at every third day and might see if I can cut down further.
Some may think that needing to take enemas regularly is a blessing, I'm not so sure. Sometimes they're enjoyable and feel good, but most of the time I'm either a little uncomfortable or "it's-the-morning-of-enema-day-let's-get-this-over-with-before-the-kids-wake-up," which isn't great for a nice enema - though they do serve their purpose. Some of you may have seen the post about one of the days when the kids didn't cooperate and one woke up right after the bag drained....
BTW I'm not dependent on the enemas for bowel functioning as a result of the enemas. When things work I'm "automatic" within a day or two. When things aren't fine I'm not automatic.
