Bulb vs. Bag vs. Can

Solo, bag. It’s easier to “set it and forget it”.

With a partner, I like a bulb with a thick smooth nozzle. I like the multiple insertions with a lubed finger in between bulbs to relax me/prepare for the next nozzle insertion

I strictly use a can for coffee! I replace the hose about twice a year. Home made delrin nozzle for water clean out and then the popular silicone nozzle for the coffee. I don’t remember its name. Butt it’s fantastic for coffee enemas!

The correct answer is bag. I have two 4 quart open top bags, one blue rubber, and one translucent silicone. I just got the silicone bag. There is nothing like seeing the huge bag hung high on the shower curtain rod, bulging with its very warm contents about to be delivered into the the rectum and colon. It is intimidating and thrilling. I really love the translucent silicone that allows me to see the level of the enema solution in the bag.

The decision is not clear to me, the bag allows you to have your hands free for other matters, the bulb gives more play for insertions and anal manipulation, so both have their play

There is no right or wrong answer, but you missed the Higginson! I've had several Higginsons, not one of them was noteworthy. They either leaked when pumped, or the valves failed or stuck open, or were just pressed in the bulb and slipped out easily. I've just started using a Higginson made from a new fuel transfer bulb from Harbor Freight (about $7.00). I cut the metal crimps off & removed the stiff plastic hoses and replaced them with silicon hoses. It works PERFECT! Another favorite is laying on my bed, where I use a clear open top bag with a hose in the top of the bag fed from a submersible pump in a 5 gallon bucket, controlled by either a push button or an adjustable on time, off time timer. I watch the water fill the bag until it reaches critical level and I get a rush of water. Another favorite is my Peristaltic pump fed either by a closed top bag hanging low or laying on the bed, or silicon hose in the bucket, using a brass hose barb to NPT fitting to weight hose to keep the suction line at the bottom of the bucket. I use this for the Higginson too. I'm a frustrated enema inventor! Don't over analyze equipment or our feelings, just enjoy the feeling and memories our enemas give us!

Lately have been using the bulb more as the cleanup is faster and easier. Start out with the traditional short nozzle to do a quick flush. Then I use a higher capacity blue bulb with a long nozzle ( 7”) to go deep - the knobs feel so good as they enter and gently spray the rectum and colon with their warm solution.!

I also used the bulb with the classic enema nozzle today. I didn't have time for an enema with a bag and I felt bloated, so I quickly introduced 300 ml of clean water with the bulb. I solved the problem in 15 minutes.

I have had all three at different times of my life. No real difference between bag or can really. My 1st enemas when young were given with a bulb over my mom's lap. I didn't like them at first ( didn't like any enemas, actually) but came to like them because of all three insersitions and bulb squeezes. Later on, I graduated to the bag and occasionally the can at my grandmas house. My 1st bag was a children's bag that was half the size of a normal bag. I was graduated to the big bag when I was 9 or 10. I remember when my mom brought it in the first time. My eyes must have been as big as saucers as my mom expected me to take the whole thing which I did with a LOT of whining.

I like the newer silicone bags as they hold a significant amount and the top opening is such that they can be cleaned quite well.

My 'main' equipment choice is a bucket kit from India - It has a silicone hose and a 1500ml capacity.

The tips that came with the bucket set left much to be desired,

but a nice, 'bulbus' barium style nozzle fit into the silicone hose and works quite well.

Some of the enema 'solutions' I use are far easier to manage in the bucket, in a cleaning aspect.

In the future I would like a plastic bucket with perhaps 2500 too 3000ml capacity to make things easier at times.

As a note: Some of the so called 'stainless steel' enema buckets leach metal into certain 'solutions' - This is why I quit using several that I have.

I have posted my preference before which is a hospital provided plastic bucket. I find it a very convenient to use enema apparatus. You can mix the solution directly and it is simple to clean and put away. I don't like bags anymore because I worry about putting them away wet and bacterial growth. I cannot hang a bag out until dry since my wife is completely enema adverse.

Before my last colonoscopy I debated buying a new silicone bag on Amazon, but I decided I would go with the oral Lavage method. It didn't work that well, I got to a point at about 1 in the morning where I couldn't tolerate anymore solution and I still wasn't running clear. So I got out my remaining 2 qt. red bag and 2 or 3 enemas later I was clear. I got chewed out at my Dr's office for not following the protocol. When I looked at their chat on the wall I realized I had gone through all their kits at some point, and had never not had to supplement it with at least one enema. Next time I will buy a new silicone bag and just assume I'll have to use it.

That being said for now I only use the enema bucket.

I've used all three. Personal preference is for a closed top bag, for a couple reasons.

1. I can overfill a 2qt. Bag with at least an extra pint, using the siphon method.

2. I can squeeze the bag if I don't think the water's going in fast enough. This is especially nice if I'm "playing" with a girl...

Like most here I was brought up getting enemas from the red open top bag and hose with a black nozzle. I got my first hose enema at 5 while in hospital for tonsillectomy from a very serious nurse using a white can, red hose, black nozzle. According to my older sister I did get enemas from mom with the "red squeeze thing" as she described it and which we played with for a while, but I don't remember those with mom so I must have been 2 to 3. She told me I never cried, just grunted! I wish we had clear bags back then as I now have several clear and I enjoy watching the water level drop as I get filled. As I've explained in other posts I use a small submersible fountain pump with either a timer or a push button controlling it in a 5 gallon bucket to feed the clear bags. I know, I'm a frustrated enema equipment inventor! I'll sometimes use my red combo bag for a quick clean and thrill.

The first enema I can remember getting was at 4 years old with an open top enema bag, but my Mom also had several different size bulb syringes so she probably used those on me when I was younger.

It always been the bag for me. Red rubber bag was used for my childhood enema and I still use a rubber bag. It seems to have been a tradition when I was growing up

I love the bag and my 1/4" laytex house which I put 14" in while I ed enjoy but need a bulb for a quick start in the morning when I have not gone for 3 days. I found a bulb on Amazon that has a screw off nozzle that fits the sprayer threads!! So now for $17 I have a 12oz bulb and a soft nozzle size of a femail douching nozzle for less than the $65 chrome ones I looked at got to thank Amazon _ delivered today try tomorrow. I'll let you know.

Bulbs do have their place, quick, and easy to set up and clean. However, for anything more than starting a bowel movement I have not found much value. I cannot hold more than two bulbs. Usually on the third I have to expel. If i really want a thorough enema it is laying down with a bucket or a bag. I prefer the plastic bucket brought home after my last hospital stay. Quick to set up and easy to clean, and you simply have to set it up on the counter and lay down on your left side were complete with everything you needed. The volume, 1500 CC's is well tolerated and gives a good enema with good results.

For me, if the enema is strictly for pleasure and I have a lot of time, there is nothing like a two or three quart J&J or Ivory soap enema with a bulb syringe. That's how all my childhood enemas that I received from my mother were given. One of those enemas at around 8 or 9 years old was when I had my first dry orgasm. That was the beginning of my life long enjoyment of enemas.

I remember it like it were yesterday. I just love the repeated insertions they are the best part of the enema. The slight irritation, The warm water slowly filling me.

As many of you know my older sister Tess and I shared enemas when we were young and our cousins joined us on our grandparents farm in WV during summer vacations and some holidays. Last night I was reading some posts to Tess from the "enema accidents" forum and she reminded me about another girl we knew from the farm we're not sure if she was related or just another family friend who lived in town so when she stayed over with her someone had to drive her and pick her up the next day.

Tess said she remembers spending a Friday night at Nichole's house and when they went to get their baths she saw a long red hose with a "squeeze thing" near one end near one end hanging in the tub. Tess recognized the enema nozzle on the end but asked Nichole what that thing was. Nichole just said "that's the thing mom uses to gives us enemas. Curiosity got the best of Tess and she asked how does it work. Nichole then gives Tess a detailed description, "mom has me take my pants and panties off, she fills the sink with warm water, rubs a bar of soap in the water until it's soapy, puts one end of the enema thing in the water, squeezes the bulb until water comes out of the black thing, I have to bend over my hands on the toilet lid, she puts the black thing in my butt and we start counting........one squirt, two squirts, three, four, five, now I have to go but still counting six, seven, eight, PLEASE STOP! Mom says just two more, do you want to do it again? Are you ready? I guess......then nine, ten. Ok all done just hold it for a couple of minutes.........Soon it's pulled from my butt, mom lifts the toilet lid, I sit and really go! Mom empties the sink, rinses the enema thing, fills the sink with warm water but no soap and she gives me another enema but this one is easier to take and I don't have to hold it. I know when my brother (two years older) and sister (two years younger) are getting enemas because she only counts to five and my brother counts to twelve, it doesn't matter who's getting an enema, there's ALWAYS lots of that's enough, or I can't take anymore, or I'm full!" Now Marty you know I would have loved to try out what as we now know is a Higgingson, but the opportunity never presented itself, but I did find out that Nichole didn't mind getting enemas......wish I had pursued the issue with her then, so now it's just another memory from our fun on the farm days! I can just visualize Nichole bent over with the hose in her butt counting to ten as mother her pumped it ten times!

As I don’t need large volumes, always want to avoid air bubbles, and like easy cleanup, my pick is a 2-liter can with an in-line Higginson. Before administering, I submerge the tip in the can and use the Higginson to purge all air from the line.

My first enemas used a disposable 1.5 L bag, but I don’t have any nostalgia around that and was happy to adopt what I felt was better technology.

Although I have had many enemas over the years I have never had an enema with a can. I have used several different types of bulbs and bags but never a can.

My favorite and used most often is the open top fountain syringe. It is easy and quick to fill and use and when done, I can stuff a towel into it to dry the inside before sticking it under the sink until the next time. I also have an eight ounce bulb that I use for travel. A quick squeeze or two eases the passage of any lumps when needed.

Haven't "been through them all" and hope I won't for a while, but they did give me the prep for "difficult bowels" and I still wound up doing 3 enemas after to get to "good." Wish they would just go ahead and tell you to do that - they didn't say to, but I wasn't going to be sent home to resechedule!

If I were taking coffee enemas, I’d likely use a can or bucket due to the coffee stains. Otherwise, my favorite for personal use has always been an open-top fountain syringe.

I know this sounds weird, my husband thinks I’m crazy, but a “bulging syringe” filled with warm water and maybe a little soap or saline-soda, is what an enema bag should look like. Just the sight of the syringe hanging in the bathroom or from an IV stand beside the bed can spark tinglings.

It's interesting to reflect on the responses going back 17 years. I posted about 10 years ago about a conundrum in choosing a preference. I'm still playing with each and haven't decided on an absolute choice. It's still an aspect of my equipment fetish and I choose depending on the circumstances at the time. Why not enjoy the shits and giggles with the various options?

My favorite is an open top bag. I can't take much for volume but I like repeated small enemas. The open top allows me to easily refill the bag.

I agree with Vickie V, I only use a clear gallon plastic can for coffee enemas. It doesn't stain and still nice to watch the level go down. Otherwise a bag is my favorite while a bulb is nice for a couple 'quickies'.

I personally have an enema plastic bucket (The made in India one seems to be well made...) with silicone tubing and a barium style bulbous tip. I like the plastic bucket style because it sits on the sink surround nicely and can contain the tubing, tip, sea salt container...etc...So I can take the whole thing into the bathroom - do 'my thing' - and depart pretty seamlessly...I have various bags and stainless steel cans for 'special occasions' that happen very rarely these days...But Que Sera, Sera!

That's a good question. I thought it was only my husband who asked himself and me such riddles and questions. I thought it wasn't important. But in the process of learning how to give enemas, I realized that it's a damn important question. To answer it unequivocally would be to lie.

So, I'll try to explain my point of view.

A lot depends on the time and mood. If it's a planned session of enema games (with all the ensuing consequences), then there's no need to rush. That means you have time. Of course, this is a small bag, up to 2 liters. In order to cleanse with plain water. Then move on to larger bags (ours are 5.5 liters). It is not necessary to insert the entire volume of the bag. Well, we prefer to finish the enema games with bulb enemas. Depending on the game scenario, the volume of the bulb enema can range from 375 ml to 1 liter. Like my husband, I believe that using an enema bulb is more sexual and intimate, as it brings the participants closer together. You have to manipulate it exclusively with your hands, work with a water container, squeeze the bulb enema, lubricate not only the instrument itself, but also the anal opening. Often, after or during the introduction of fluid from the bulb enema, you can already proceed to oral caresses or manual manipulation. This gives another plus point for the bulb enema.

But there are also disadvantages to each type of enema as a tool. One of them is that you need to have time to use large volumes of enema bags.

Nowadays, this is a rather rare resource, given the transience of life and events in it. Therefore, you need to choose or arrange “enema parties” less often.

The second disadvantage of the enema bulb is hand fatigue. If you are inexperienced or do not engage in sports, it is quite difficult to administer more than 700 ml of fluid with a bulb. Considering that my husband and I have enema bulbs with a much larger capacity, it is quite a challenge. It is not easy.

Therefore, there will be two conclusions today.

Conclusion 1. It is essential to have a variety of tools. You never know which one you might need.
