Diminishing use of enemas and equipment

I recently traveled out of town, and during the trip I stopped at a Wal-Mart which had a wall of the Cara bags at the end of one of the checkout aisles, a spot normally reserved for "grab-n-go" items, lol.

The few enema bags that are available in drug stores are not very

good quality. You are better off ordering one online. Faultless

is the best drug store type combination enema bag.

You are so totally correct, Mountain Man. Certainly what they call a hose today, is a worthless piece of crap. Stiff, and will KINK so easily. You also must check the plastic nozzles for harmful flaws. Made in China, Bangaladesh, and other foriegn places are CHEAP for a reason!!

You cannot buy a good oldfashioned enema BULB anymore either. A friend asked me last year to find one for her.I looked everywhere, and I finally found a cheap looking one at an "adult store," in the gay men's dept. Of course, after she tried it, she said it LEAKED. Damn good waste of $12.00.

I am glad my Jones can is good, and I can buy replacement hose for it, at several places. Found the can in a grab box at a yard sale for one dollar. I also own one older Faultless bag, that I also use new tubing with.I've three bulbs. Not one of tnem newer than the 1960's. Walt

If you need new hose you can always go to a Home Depot & find surgical tubing in the plumbing section of the store for less than $10...

The Fleet launch has taken over the bag enemas. Even hospitals use Fleets more now whether it's for time constraints and convenience, who knows.

I bought about 7-8 old time bags on e-Bay (black nozzles, red rubber hoses, and a couple holding almost 3 qts.) I go on-line to get some serious equipment. I have a Cara open top which is about the best of a poor bunch. There is just no demand anymore, except from we folks. Disposables, the medical community condemming douching and the labor intensity,of the large volume enemas in hospitals, have put all the old suppliers out of the bag market. At least we have many on-line suppliers to go to, even if they charge very high prices.

You can have FedEx shipments directed to specific local FedEx office with a direction to "hold for pickup" without ever having to give your address.

I really want to get a clear silicon one, they are so nice! I think if you called and explained your situation about being in the closet they would go the extra mile to get you what you need via money order and hold for pickup like BillyBagget suggested.

Today we are lucky to find a very small display of only combination syringes, no fountain syringes, and certainly no folding travel syringes. Is enema equipment destined to disappear completely from the shelves of drug stores? Is this truly an indication that enema use is diminishing more and more each year? It would be very interesting to know how popular enemas remain with those of us on this board. I usually take a four quart enema every day.

How many do you take or receive each month? What volume?

I agree, enemas and the equipment for them seems to be diminishing. As a society we are getting into pills and quick fixes. Seems to me sometimes the tried and true should be given more credit.

I always look for the kits on the shelf and you find 8oz squeeze bulbs and a hot water bottle alot but a fountain syringe is few and far between to be found.

I remember when you had choices on the shelf and differant types as well.

I long for those days and have many memories of walking down the aisle and looking quick so no one could tell I was looking at them but who was I fooling I would go down the same way about ten times and slow down with my head turned at them and I thought I was being slick.

There was another thread on here and we do agree that we have a very lazy society today, like you said take a pill or drink this as well as an fleet enema for quick relief don't worry about the rest in the colon It will come out latter.

Since little Enema equipment is available unless mail ordered, more and more people are learning to make their own. A trip to a 'box store', or a farm supply store can provide many types of containers that can easily be drilled and fitted with a hose barb. In the plumbing section, you can find tubing in whatever length you want for a custom hose. Ball valve shut off devices can give a better control than a simple clamp, and an in-line bulb can be found in the sporting section with boating equipment.

Always remember, "Enema people can be very inventive".

What you do find today is of strikingly POOR quality. Bulb that leak. Hoses so kinked you cannot get an even flow. Tips that have burrs on them. Makes me think the cheap foreign laborers that make them have no idea what the hell they are making. A freind of mine bought a "new" bag combo douche, and enema. The first time his wife wanted to use it for her douche, the seam split wide open. 29 bucks, and pure JUNK.

I am fortunate to own 4 antiques. I've two real rubber bulbs dated 1924, and 1931. Both have been well cared for, and still work well. I've another old red rubber bulb my mother used upon me, and I can't date it accurately. One collector told me from pics I sent him, he felt it was pre WW2. It works just fine.

I also have a "Jones can," that is from a 1914 patent. It is in perfect condition, although I have had to replace the hose. I was able to obtain some surgical hose that does come close to the original flexibility.

Like BagBug, I also used to walk slowly down the isle of the local Rexall Drugs so I could look at the Enema equipment "without being seen". Thinking now, that the pharmacist was always in a raised area where he could look out over the store, it would be interesting to hear from some of them as to what all THEY could see of our actions. I would imagine they could tell some very interesting and funny stories of people who thought nobody was seeing them looking.

I think the point is that if more people used enemas on a regular basis, Walmart would carry a bigger selection. We can certainly make our own equipment at the hardware store, or order a wide selection on line, but todays drug store sells only a cheap red bag made in India or the Fleets. I suspect they sell to people who are just starting out, curious, or following an older Aunt's recommendation.

Come to think of it, you don't usually see enema equipment in "Adult" stores.

I've been trying to wear down my nozzles with friction, but so far, no luck. Guess I won't have to depend on Walmart in the near future.

I gave up on commercial bags several years ago when the price went from five

to seven dollars and the bag that I bought fell apart on the second use. That was

a mess that I decided not to repeat not only that, but the bag only held two

quarts. That was the impetus to make my first Jugbag that is pictured in my

avatar. I still have a feminine travel syringe that I keep in deference to the

old times when such bags didn't fall apart under normal use.

All in all, I can make a Jugbag fou under $5.00 and they don't leak or fall apart.

All of this is in praise of the klismo who rolls his own.

The new syringes with badly kinked white hose are an insult. You can remedy the kinked hose or bag by heating it in a big pot with about an inch of water with the lid on. Don't forget it on the stove! Melted plastic is hard to get out of a saucepan. Been there; done that.

Wow! This is one old thread - started 2009. Glad to see the thread starter is still here. Since 2009, allot of enema gear now appears online - Amazon, Walmart, Etsy, ... all showing enema interest is alive and well. Though the days of when I'd go into a pharmacy and nervously buy enema items is long gone.... Sadly, going though ID's of posters here, I see names of some I knew are no longer here.

Walmart does have a selection for online ordering, but they are not high quality. OHN is more expensive, but a better source for quality and SN has a great selection of nozzles. Amazon has several pages dedicated to enemas and colon cleaning.

1st world problem go online for high quality does it cost more you bet but you get what you pay for ! If you do find enema equipment in the store it’s poor quality. The days of embarrassment and humiliation of checking out in a drug store with high end equipment is forever lost sadly.

@Rigel OHN is more expensive, but a better source for quality and SN has a great selection of nozzles.

Yes enema equipment has virtually disappeared from retail shelves and moved to online for the major retailers. It may come down to limited shelf space and retailers finding the right mix of products that will bring the highest profit per square foot of shelf space. Providing products online is cheap and easily stocked in warehouses.

That said the enema equipment in stores is pure junk and that's if you can find an enema kit. The online options on sites like Amazon is huge and specialty equipment sites like Silicone Nozzles far exceeds in quality and variety way beyond anything you can find in a retail store.

I always just browse the shelves when I am in a drug store just to see if they even have any enema equipment, and I really haven't seen anything in years.

So go online and treat yourself to the good stuff.

Yes, unfortunately times are changing...

Today I'm sitting at dinner before main news time, enduring commercials with smiling ladies who are happy that their intestines are working properly again; and hold up any colorful packs of pills, drops and other pharmaceutical products into the camera.

Well, as a kid I would have preferred the pills and various drops. The thrill from my twenties of standing in front of the bulging shop windows of drugstores and medical supply stores with a hard on in your pants to marvel at the almost unmanageable range of enema equipment is unfortunately definitely over.

Fast pace today is the key, you don't take time for anything anymore.

As to replacing hose, I found 10' food grade 3/16" silicon for $9.99 on Amazon but they have 3', 10', 16', and 32' lengths there too. Yes I agree but nothing like enjoying an enema from a beautiful vintage enema/ douche bag .

Something about the aroma of a vintage rubber bag filled with a thick soapy ivory mix .luckily we realize early that vintage enemas on eBay we have a very large collection that we can enjoy
