Now, I have to make most of my own equipment, because I am looking for certain things that nobody else thinks about.
I want my container to be translucent, or even perfectly clear, so that I can see instantly how much liquid is left.
Plus, it’s nice to have graduated marks on the side, to see the exact quantity of liquid remaining.
So, most of these rubber bags are out, because you can’t see through them.
I had one of the black, heavy-rubber Sherema bags, millions of years ago.
It was OK, I guess.
One day, I cut it up, and threw it away.
The BEST containers are the large water containers that they sell in Wal-mart.
They hold several gallons, and they come with a dispenser spigot already attached.
They are made for drinking water.
A gallon pitcher is also good.
But, for sheer convenience and economy, as well as usability, you can’t beat a simple gallon drinking-water bottle.
Every supermarket has these. Drinking water, in one-gallon plastic bottles, that have a carrying handle on the side.
Take it home, and dump out the water.
Take scissors and start cutting into the top, right at the threaded part, where the small cap screws on.
The plastic is thick there, for the screw threads, so it will be tough on the scissors.
But, you can cut through.
Now, enlarge the TOP opening in the bottle, and make it big enough that you could drop an orange into the bottle.
Do NOT cut away the handle, because that’s how you will hang the container up.
Basically, cut away the very top, where the small lid screws on. All of that, and some more besides, is cut away.
Now, you have a gallon bottle with the top cut out, large enough to slide your hand into the inside of the water bottle.
Take pointy scissors, and carefully poke a hole on the side of the bottle, at the very bottom.
Rotate the scissors blade, to enlarge the opening.
Now, poke a latex tube through the hole that you made.
The tube should fit snug, so it won’t slide back out.
Obviously, don’t make the hole too large.
And, think about the correct location, for the hole.
When you hang the container up by the handle, it will tilt slightly.
The very bottom is where the hole should be.
You only need to insert the latex tube in a very short distance, just enough that it won’t pull back out.
Now, you have a very nice container.
Large enough to hold almost a full gallon.
Easy to see the level of liquid inside.
Super cheap, and easy to make.
Tie a string to the handle and keep the container very LOW, so you don’t get too much pressure.
A foot or two above your body is plenty!
If you’re getting crampy and full too fast, it might be because you are hanging your container from the top of the telephone pole.
Try it very low, and you will instant see the difference it makes!
