The "butterflies" or excitement rush can be addictive!
When I was younger I had an addiction that lasted for many years of buying enema bags and âsufferingâ the enjoyment of embarrassment standing in line at the checkout... I call it an addiction because whenever I found a new drugstore, I could not resist checking out their enema bag selection. I'd leave the store, but could not get it out of mind that I had to back and buy something! It seemed the more embarrassing the purchase would be, the more compelled I was to go back!
Stores that kept their bags behind the cashier so youâd have to ask for them â a special âtreatâ, ha! Other stores were very busy, or some would be large dept. stores where youâd have to stand on a general checkout line â all things that would âflavorâ the embarrassment in different shades of dread!
A couple of purchases stand out in my mind:
One time, the box I was taking off the shelf opened at the back end - tubing and nozzle pack began to fall out. In Creamer like clumsiness I stumbled reaching for them â causing them to fly down the aisle about 10 feet away!
Another time, in a very small store, being all alone I felt compelled to purchase both a the regular bag on the shelf, as well as a folding syringe next to it. Going to pay for them, the young gal cashier looked at me and asked as if I was nuts, âyou want them both!?â âYesâ, was all I could say, as I turned every shade of red!
One purchase that took allot of time to build up nerve to make was from the drug dept of the now long since defunct Alexanderâs Dept store. They were selling open-top red bags in a completely clear flat plastic packages â so everything was easily seen, and since the bag was not folded, the package was large, and very obvious!
Another memorable time was at a large K-mart store, one of the first in the area. It had a large pyramid shaped freestanding carousel display of enema and douche bags the likes of which I had never seen before or since! It was all Faultless products, and you could spin the carousel around to get to all sides. As I was turning it, a young woman came over and began looking at the bags! I was too shy to talk to her, even though she looked very interested in doing soâŚ
