If I have to go, I will allow the BM to happen and then enjoy a nice full enema bag. I usually use salt and baking soda which goes in easy and and does not get absorbed into the intestinal tract, giving me a very nice release. Even if I do only one bagful, I feel free and great the rest of the day. If I do a second bag, the returns are usually almost clear.
For my last colonoscopy, I drank the prep solution and struggled to get all the water and waste out. I basically ran out of water at the end and still had particles in the returns. The paperwork from the clinic said if I had problems with the prep, to call the clinic for advice. This was at 7:30 in the morning and was due to be at the clinic at 10:00. They told me if I was not properly prepped, they would have to reschedule!! No way did I want to start all over again! They asked me if I had another bottle of Magnesium Citrate, and said no. They then asked if I had a Fleet enema in the house, and said no. Then I volunteered that I had a 2 quart enema bag and asked if I could take a warm water enema. They said they would have to ask the doctor, and would call me back.
About 10 minutes later, they called me back and told me to take the 2 qt warm water enema. It was the first time I was able to take a "legal" enema as my wife does not approve of my enema usage. So I got the okay from the doctor, and took the enema, and lo and behold, there were more particles in the returns, and was happy that I was properly cleaned out for the procedure.
For all future colonoscopies, I will be sure to finish the prep with an nice warm 2 quart enema!!
After all, the doctor said it was okay!
