Looking at female genitals ( visual) at physical exam

Are there any females who have their regular doctor ( not obgyn) just ask to take a look at their genitals during a physical? Like just look under underwear?

Yes. After every annual check-up. I'm already undressed fully, naked under a gown and it happens at the end right after the abdominal exam. It's pretty quick not at all as involved as the gyn exam. Just a look and a quick spread of the labia and then it's over. Since I'm prone to UTIs I assume it's more about checking to see if my urethra or anything in that region looks irritated or such more than it is about my vagina. But it's still also just for a overall check to makes sure everything thing is fine not just that.

@Allie Does the doctor have you move to a frog leg position or just have you spread your legs wider for the check?

@colddisk I just spread my legs a bit for her. I have no underwear on under the gown by choice so it makes things run a bit smoother when it comes time. I have been in the frog leg position before but not for many years or with this current doctor. It was only when I was much younger. All my adult exams have either been in stirrups at the gynecologist or at the regular doctor simply spreading my legs wider for a quick look/exam.

No. That’s never happened

From my experience, Regular GP Family Doctors limit themselves to blood pressure and blood tests. Specific problems are examined on request. They used to do more. That is a long-gone service. Anything else goes out to specialists or Government-sponsored testing.

I am not an actual doctor and I am not a female, so forgive my ignorance. But what can they find with such checks that patient would not be aware and quite likely seek help with already?

As opposite to with a play doctor, a real doctor event wanting to see my genitals, let alone touch, without a really good reason would be way out of line!

I know he takes a quick look through my pubic hair to check for anything like lice etc, and he’s a old school doctor so his exams are head to toe. At mostly all of my adult physicals that area has been examined.

Yep he does a quick check of my external genitalia. Just pushes down the front of my undies and takes a look.

When my wife had a yeast infection, she went to her GP, as appointments to the gyn were available much later.

That never happen to me at a normal physical exam

Yes my general medical (not gyno) ends with a look down my knickers.

She pulls my lips back at various angles. Some doctors just gently open them others are much firmer and stretch it really wide. She lifts my hood and runs her finger down the middle of my minora, I presume checking everything separates and isn't adhered. Sometimes she inserts 2 fingers and I have to squeeze them which hurts a little as I'm a virgin.

I don't think that a general practitioner has ever checked my genitals, Hell I had a yeast infection and he only gave me a cream with the instructions if that doesn't clear it up, call me for another appointment.

Interesting to read posts - does it seems like women's privates are checked more than that of us guys. Heck, can't remember the last a doc or a NP checked mine; can't say I blame though.
