5 minutes minimum but I'm usually scrolling on my phone while it registers so not uncommon that it goes over.
If it’s a glass mercury thermometer the usual time is three minutes. With a digital or probe usually it is until the instrument signals the body temperature has been reached.
A nurse who took my rectal temp back in the 1980s told me three minutes was sufficient with a glass thermometer. Nowadays, with a digital, if you have a reluctant patient like my grown daughter was when she had COVID-19 and was very ill during the first 48 hours, I was able to get an accurate reading in just 15 seconds – hardly any time at all. After that first temp, she relaxed on her side, took a breath or two while the tip was inserted, and she hardly felt anything. Digitals can be a godsend when someone is really sick and you need to take a rectal quick and easy.
As part of a medfet exam, I like to leave it in at least 5 minutes. Although I'm sure the reading would be accurate within a minute or two, I like to keep the patient in this submissive position for as long as possible. It's all about D/s control, embarrassment, etc.
@Vicki_VWas your daughter reluctant to the rectal temperature method or was it a thermometer issue, where she was better having a quick digital as opposed to a three minute ordeal. This can be an issue when someone is feeling poorly.
My nurse usually 5 minutes for a glass thermometer reading and digital probe much faster, if it's for a punishment reading it's a full 10 minutes to the tip of the thermometer to remind me who is indeed in charge.
If I take a rectal temperature for health reasons, I leave the glass thermometer inserted for 5 minutes. If it's for fun, it can be longer.
Old Mercury thermometer needed 5mins at home i.often be in diaper position wile vasaline thermometer inserted or face down on bed on childrens ward in hospital did all younger children in diaper position but older ones face down on bed
@OverRainbowDaughter was much happier when I used a digital in her bottom, literally just about 15 seconds in and out. She's still is a little sensitive to this sort of thing, even with Mom.
I’ve usually kept it in for about 10 minutes. One of my former girlfriends kept it in my butt for over 30 minutes, because I took it out after a short time. She held it in place.
My dom uses a glass rectal thermometer. She keeps it in for at least 5 minutes. One time I was over her lap totally nude for 30 minutes.
I have posted about this strange medfet girlfriend I had for several years in my late twenties, back in the 1980's, who had set the rule that she would take my rectal temperature, stark naked on her lap, everytime we were to have sex.As a matter of facts, part of the game was that she never told me how long she kept her registering thermometer inserted in my rectum, nor what my recorded temperature was. For her, it was a way to show me she was in control of the situation.
You have to leave it for 5 minutes to be sure of the measurement. In any case, at least 3 minutes.Depending on the situation, the time felt by the person who gets it can seem much longer 😃
1983 I was fifteen at the emergency room. I had a very bad virus nauseated vomiting. The nurse decided that it was best to get a rectal temperature using a glass thermometer. It was stuck in my butt for 3 to five minutes . I got a iv that night for being dehydrated. Two suppositories. The nurse took my temperature 2 time that night before I was released . I got a prescription from suppository for home
My doctor is very old school and set in his ways. He always takes a temperature rectally and only very recently started to use digital thermometers. The digital one will beep when it’s done and it’s no more than a minute. When he uses the old glass type thermometer it can be anywhere from 3 to almost 10 minutes. I asked him about it when I was younger and he insisted it was more accurate and that it required a minimum of 3 minutes but the longer it was it the more accurate it would be. He said he found 5 minutes to be the minimum for accuracy. He also used to hold the thermometer in for the whole time irregardless if I was on my side, face down or bending over. I’m pretty sure it’s why my medfet interest started.
