I appreciate the feedback (and the moderator actions).
I never understood the guys who did unsolicited dick-pics or went out of their way to flash their junk at random women - and that's definitely not what I was getting at in this post.
As @Nurse_Phillips, @Annette1997, @Tabitha32, @ddell2 and others have alluded to, random male nudity can either be taken in a threatening manner or is just not an interesting or arousing thing - that's why I was asking about male nudity in a controlled/safe/ non-sexual manner - in my case, primarily as a nude life model.
Having spoken with several artists, I know that the model (male or female) is mostly seen as an object - a much more complex object than a bowl of fruit, or as one put it, a life model is a more complex bowl of fruit from which an artist must attempt to capture an identity and personality.
Thinking about this post and responses, I think it really comes down to the individual - but mostly it comes down to interaction and identity outside of the studio. It is difficult for personality to come out in a modeling session - there are unwritten "rules" and norms that cover artist/model interaction in the studio. When I'm modeling, I largely tune out the artists and kind of enter a meditation like zone in my head - which furthers that dynamic. I guess that's why I was so taken aback by the comment that prompted this post.
Janice (the woman at the alumni function) and i had extensive interaction outside of the studio, before and after the modeling sessions. But even knowing that artist or model interact outside of the studio does not necessarily mean that those norms are abandoned.
If I were to modify my original question, it would be to ask: If it was a man that you knew, that you saw nude in a safe environment - but I think that we've covered that - it depends. It depends on how well you knew the person, how you felt about them, and what the circumstances were.
I appreciate everyone's input. I haven't done any nude modeling in months, but I have done some life modeling (mostly hand portraits). I hope to resume in the fall
