If you even suspect you have a UTI, stop and locate care immediately.
Why? You either are having pain in the urinary tract, and burning and a fever or combination which can quickly develop into sepsis.
My other half developed a UTI following surgery, most likely due to being catheterized during the procedure. Four days later he was acting a bit odd and when I asked what was happening, he replied he was having a bit of burning.
He also had an elevated temp of 100. In the 30 minute drive to the hospital, his fever jumped to 102.5, he started coughing and renal colic set in.
In the next few hours we learned he had pneumonia, a UTI, sepsis and was going to be in the hospital for several days on IV antibiotics.
UTI's can turn serious quickly and the infection spread rapidly through the body. If you suspect a UTI follow this tree:
(1) Call your primary care if during business hours and get an appointment asap.
(2) If your primary care cannot see you that day, go to a free standing urgent care
(3) If urgent cares are not available then head to the ER.
The above is even more critical if you are elderly.
