Ladies: relaxing behaviour of your practicioner?

Question for the girls and ladies of course:

As the first gyno exam is stressful and process still unknown from your physical point of view, did/does your doctor try to reassure you, using words, or special exercises, or others?

What were they? And to what extend successful?

I grew up super conservative and was really frighted at my first pelvic exam in my early 20's. The female NP actually spent 45 mins with me before the exam. She talked about managing stress. She wanted me to come to a group she did at the office for stress management. She showed me everything before the exam and ran the pap brush on my arm to let me know what it felt like. The female NP was super gentle and talked me through the whole process. I had to have the pap collection twice as I had an infection that I didn't know about.

I would get more stressed instead of distraction if any doctor would have given me maths problem to solve during any examination, forget gynec , any exam, even simple tummy exam. 😃 I was a bad student in school.

Coming to the question in the thread, in my gynec appointment doctor just said relax and deep breathe. During my first appointment I was stressed due to something personal. Was not bothered about what the gynec was doing and I was prepared that the exam is going to be little uncomfortable
