For any enemas when I received them I was always restrained in my toileting chair. My aide would control the enema, while two others stood by for safety. I have a roll in shower so I would be gotten out of bed and lowered into my chair. Secured at toes, ankles, knees, torso, arm and seatbelt before being wheeled into shower to receive treatment.
The anticipated resulting bowel movement was contained in a pail recessed into the seat, enemas and suppositories became ineffective to empty my bowels. I was transitioned about 10 years ago to oral medication, no longer are we trying to cause enough stimulation to have a movement, now the medication has control and all bowel movements are contained by my diaper. It’s not uncommon in my life to have witnesses to everything I do. .
Since the aide who administers my medication is the same person who changes my diapers she knows precisely what my doctor wants happening, very large, soft and frequent stools, I can’t choose to use or not use my diaper since I don’t have sensation or control.
I am completely unaware of my bowels needing to go or going. There’s no shame in my game when you need and have caregivers, they all know almost everything about you and probably are in control of a few things, because they are the adults.
