Underwear pulled back up during temp

Before having my temperature taken rectally at my doctor’s office I had to undress down to my underwear. After inserting the thermometer the nurses there always pulled my underwear back up while the thermometer registered. I always loved that because I got to feel her hands pulling my underwear up and down a total of four times. I think they pulled the underwear back up not only for privacy but to help keep the thermometer in place. Did anyone else experience that?

No I dont recall even in the hospital a nurse pulling my underwear back up. Usually she would remove the thermometer and read it off and say you can pull them up. Occasionally the reading wasn’t right and she would shake it and it had to go back in.

So I'm assuming most nurses just left your underwear pulled down the whole time? Or did they have you remove your underwear completely? I'm very curious about this.

I experience that. Out of all of the nurses I had take my rectal temp, I had one older nurse who would pull my underpants back up over the thermometer, and then go about her business, which sometimes meant she would leave the exam room 10-15 minutes. I now believe she likely worked in a busy short staffed children’s hospital at one time, where with a lot of RTs to take, and that method was a time saver. A thermometer put in my butt by her, felt like a rectal temperature marathon. If I shifted my hips, the thermometer would move a little, much to my delight. The tattletale crinkling table paper would usually cause a few stern words from my mother to “be still.”

It happened to me when I was age 13 during a hospital admission exam. The nurse holding a thermometer with a glob Vaseline on pear shaped bulb said do he needs to take my temperature. She pulled my PJs up after inserting into my rectum. She later pulled them back down and then rested her hand on my bottom holding thermometer like a cigarette.

Never recall that my underwear was pulled back up during the time the thermometer was inserted, but a few times there were complimentary remarks about my underwear- mostly white briefs. This as an adult, not a pediatric patient.

One time the nurse prior to taking my temperature, simply left a hand on my briefs, for about 15-20 seconds, then pulled them down.

I never had my underwear pulled back up. Some nurses held the thermometer at the end, and others did it by holding it between their 2nd and 3rd fingers, resting their hand on my backside.

@RTFixation Most nurses pulled my underwear down once up on the exam table after being rolled over. Sometimes they were removed completely by the nurse. Some nurses would ask my mother to remove them along with my pants before getting on the exam table. It all depended upon which nurses attended me.

No never, underwear was always left pulled down.

Yes and I hated it because it put pressure on it on my insides that hurt

It would vary. I had to undress to my underpants and get weighed. To this day I still don't understand why the scale was in the hall just outside of the exam room? It meant others getting a good view for sure and my feeling entirely self conscious. I always feared that someone would see me lying on the table for my RT or when I would be given a shot.

The nurse was always very clear about taking my temp. Worse, mom would ask, “Do you want him to turn over for his temp now?” Turning over was mandatory and then the nurse would pull down my briefs to my knees. If the doctor was in the room, it often resulted in them coming off completely! If they had still be on after my temp was taken, she would pat my rear and tell me to pull them back up “for now.”
