When I was a child and teenager living in the United States, my temperature was taken using a rectal thermometer at home and at a pediatrician's office. My mom, aunt, and grandmother would insert a lubricated thermometer in my anus, and I can remember how cold the thermometer felt at times when it was inserted. Female nurses at the pediatrician's office would take my temperature with a rectal thermometer prior to my examination by pediatricians who were always women. I am curious as to which family members and health care professionals use rectal thermometers in the United States and other countries.
