History - ABDL

I have been looking back at many of the old posts and many things spring to mind, one of these is that back in the late 1990's Nappies were very secretly hidden away, for "adult Nappies" you had to go to medical equipment suppliers who from my memory were not really used to selling to the general public, all the big stores had plenty of baby Nappy products but not an adult Nappy anywhere to be seen.

Nowadays you can pick up adult Nappies from most local shops never mind the large shelves in supermarkets displaying row upon row of adult Nappies.

In some case the supermarkets even have their own brands, how times have changed, from being a “taboo” subject to being openly sold in most shops !

I think the public have opened up about incontinence and business has realised the true market is huge and they had better get on the bandwagon or loose their footing in the market place, incontinence is no longer exactly a “taboo” subject.

I have had a fondness for wearing cloth diapers and plastic pants since the 50's when as a kid I wet my bed and mom diapered me. When I finally left home for good in the late 60's mom let me take my old diapers and plastic pants so I could wear them when I wanted. But as time went on, they wore out and I started looking for places the find them. For a while I was able to replenish my needs from SEARS. Their catalogue still had larger adult cloth diapers and plastic pants. Of course the internet was long in the future and over the next few decades when SEARS more or less disappeared, I started prowling medical supply stores for plastic pants and ordering adult size cloth diapers. I always found it so embarrassing to talk with a saleslady about wanting plastic pants or as I often said “rubber pants”. I wasn't incontinent and wore because I had a fetish and like to become sexually aroused in diapers, but I couldn't tell her the truth of course. It was usually hit or miss trying the find a place that had the right sort of plastic pant, especially pull ups and not the snap on style. Usually I would have a diaper on under my pants, often wet, and I'd ask to try what the had on for size. They usually had private fitting rooms and sometimes the saleslady would actually ask me if I needed help and when that happened I would become very nervous, even stutter a bit as she took me to the fitting room. She told me to go ahead and take my pants off lay down on the table, which I did. She was the first girl to see me in my diapers and rubber pants since my mom last diapered me years ago and I got so aroused just like I did when my mom diapered me. But she was very professional, and just helped me take off my diaper cover and try on the plastic pants. She helped me decide if the fit properly and then seemed quite pleased that they did. She asked me if I wore diapers often and I told her I wet my bed a lot and wore them at night mostly. For the next couple of years until I moved to another city, I returned to her a few times and she was always very sweet to me.

As another who has been into this for a LONG time (always attracted to diapers / wetting / the way they looked / smelled) as a kid in the 60s then actively starting to enjoy the various aspects of this in the 70s) the way adult diapers have become commonplace and the way the ABDL thing has come out into the open has just amazed me.

As many other older ones here, I literally spent years thinking that I had to have been the only person in the world with this weird, sick obsession; that I was so attracted to and sexually turned on by things everyone else found to be disgusting, that there was something horribly wrong with me. The guilt balanced with the constant urges to give in and enjoy it meant several years of the “binge and purge” thing.

When I finally started realizing that I wasn't the only one, it felt like a tremendous weight was lifted off my shoulders! Beginning to find occasional ABDL material in adult books, followed by actual photos of girls in diapers, makers of adult baby items, etc. helped me accept who I am and that it's OK, and this eventually led to my finding a girl who was OK with it all.

Now to go on the web and see thousands of photos of others wearing and using their diapers, or to go in any store and see an entire aisle of adult diapers, is just absolutely amazing to me.
