Public RTs

Over the years I've found a few accounts on the internet of people receiving RTs in a public area in plain view of strangers.

The first story was recounted by not so famous comedienne Ann Randolph. In college she traveled to Alaska one summer to work in a cannery. She said some of the guys were "hunky" so she wore fashion boots rather than insulated work boots. Freezing cold water got into her boots and she developed hypothermia and passed out. She awoke on the cannery floor with her pants pulled down to her knees and a thermometer up her anus. The hunky guys were standing around her watching with interest.

The second story was from the diary of an amateur female long distance runner. She ran the Tacoma marathon and collapsed at the finish line. Medical personnel rushed her to the medical tent and took her rectal temperature but she was too out of it to object. They dumped her in a wading pool filled with ice and brought her temperature down. After a while, they lifted her onto a table. Her legs were so cramped that she had to hold them at a 90 degree angle to the ground. The nurses allowed her boyfriend into the tent to talk to her. Then they took her temp again, presumably while she was in the legs up diaper change position.

The last story which appeared in the book "The Tent, the Bucket and Me" by English author and humorist Emma Kennedy relates her family's misadventure camping in southern France when she was 13. She developed a very bad sunburn and probably heat exhaustion or early heat stroke. Her parents put her on a camp bed outside the tent. A Dutch nurse came by and offered to examine her which she did. Over a dozen people, mostly kids and teens gathered to watch the proceedings. The nurse said she wanted to take Emma's temperature and left to get her nurse's bag. When she came back she flipped the girl on her tummy, pulled down her bikini bottoms and slide the thermometer up her rectum in full view of everyone present. Someone in the group clapped and she said that one young boy's eyes got as big as saucers. This was back in the day of glass thermometers so I assume everyone present enjoyed at least three minutes of voyeuristic pleasure.

Has anyone else heard of or experienced similar situations?

Pediatric wards were very common back in the 70s and 80s and so were rectal temps taken on children of all ages. Hundreds of public rectal temps took place daily if you were unlucky enough to be in one. I was pretty young when I had my tonsils out but everything was open and temp time happened several times a day where nurses basically went down the row sticking thermometers in bottoms.

There was an episode of Diffrent Strokes where Mr. D went to the hospital at the same time Sam did, and stayed with him in the pediatric ward so it wasn’t so scary for him. When it came time for the nurse to take temps, he opened his mouth and the nurse said “that’s not how we take temperatures in the pediatric ward.” Lol.

...A Dutch nurse came by and offered to examine ...........

Where have those nurses gone? I live in the Netherlands and this never happened to me!

I've never encountered anything quite that public, but I witnessed a friend's temp, and my brother witnessed me.

As was pointed out earlier, the pediatric wards would have been one of the few places where you would find rectal temps. taken in a "public" setting, back in the day. I've visited friends who had their rectal temp. taken without privacy, and even walked in on my friend's sister, when she was having her temp. taken that way. Both of us were embarrassed, and I had a hard-on from it that I tried to conceal. (At 13). I've also seen a few cases, where a rectal thermometer was sitting next to a Vaseline jar, on a table, or nightstand. I guess, that would be a public display, in a sense. I can't imagine that anyone would be bold enough to take their rectal temp. in a public place, i.e., a park, the beach, etc., but since people are people, there's no doubt that it's happened. Maybe some college kids doing a dare...or a fraternity or sorority pledge...or just for kicks.

Here are a few more. I wasn't sure they were worth posting but since there appears to be interest:

A satirical article in U.S. Marine Corps magazine told how Navy corpsmen (medics) were tired of looking at assholes at OCS (Officer Candidate School). In the Marines, any time someone drops out due to the heat on a hike a corpsman will stick a thermometer known as the silver bullet up the Marine's butt.

OCS is extremely competitive and many candidates push themselves too far and end up with heat exhaustion. The men train with the women now and women receive the exact same silver bullet treatment. One of the corpsman said he was even tired of seeing cute girls' anuses.

Long ago in a teen athlete magazine, a world class teenage extreme distance swimmer related her training practices. She used to sleep with the window open (in northern England) in the winter and would swim up and down a lake in cold weather to get used to the cold of the open ocean. Once she was finished with her swim her dad would hand her a thermometer and petroleum jelly and she would sneak off into the bushes to measure her rectal temperature. Not exactly public but people walking the lake must have wondered what she was doing.

In the book "Ranger Confidential", a ranger at the Grand Canyon told a story about a very hot summer day where several people collapsed on a trail to the canyon floor. One was a boy scout and the rangers took his temp rectally while they cooled him down. Another was a chubby woman in another group. The rangers asked bystanders to fan the woman while they slide a thermometer up her nether regions.

I've always wondered about some of the survival shows like Naked and Afraid. It seems like someone comes down with a serious illness every third episode but there's never any hint that there was any thermometer buggery practiced. In the survival show where a former U.S. special forces officer teamed up with is porky BBC presenter wife they were trying to hike across the Sonoran desert in northern Mexico and she came down with a case of heat stroke. A medic was called and the cameras cut away. I can't help thinking that she probably received an RT.

It's commen ten years ago at some places in China.some provinces like use rectal thermometer just like 浙江 江苏 上海，福建，广东 湖南 香港 台湾 。but we don't look highly of private of children even you over 12 if went to pediatric department。over parents lap and with paints pulled down.some boys and girls may study at junior high school but can't avoid it.with the development of China the beauty secen become less but it still happen.

I was 7or8 at the time, my mom had called Dr. Miller my pediatrician and found out he was out for the day. Well I guess I had a fever,so my mom took me to this small hospital close to our house. When we got there the nurse took us back, but there we're no room's available, so we sat on a bench in the hall were she started to take my vitals, all was fine until she had me stand up, that's when she started to unbutton my pants and push them down with my underwear. Then she lifts me over her lap , pulls out a thermometer from her pocket, lubes it and inserts it in my butt! I can remember looking over my shoulder and seeing people walk by, probably looking at the thermometer sticking out my butt. This probably happened a lot at this hospital, I'm guessing.

Ive seen rectal temps in public on kids. Every once in a while ill go to the restroom and there will be a toddler on the changing table flushed and crying with a thermometer up its butt. Ive taken my own temp in the bathroom at the beach because i felt overheated. It was almost 103 so i headed back into the ocean to cool down. It was 98 after a dip.

I once had mine taken as an older toddler by the clinic receptionist as she was making appointments and checking people in. Everyone who came up to her window could see me laying there pantless with a thermometer in my butt. I remember looking up and seeing people’s faces looking down at me.

I threw up in the waiting room, so the receptionist took me to the bathroom to clean me up as my mom cleaned up the waiting area. She grabbed a thermometer as we left the bathroom and took me and it back to her desk. I was really ill, but not too ill to not be surprised or to ever forget that it happened. The exam rooms must have been overflowing on that day.

I've seen a few babies/toddlers being changed in public restrooms but no temperature check.
