New Primary Care

Earlier this year I "fired" my primary care practice because I didn't feel that they were thorough enough. I've written about my experiences elsewhere.

I have an appointment with a new practice next week for my annual physical. At this new practice I will also be seen by a PA, but we've already gotten off to a better start.

Two weeks out they had me establish my personal account on their online patient portal. This involved filling out HIPPA notices, providing insurance info, and filling out medical history forms.

One week before my appointment the PA i will be seeing emailed me through the portal. She introduced herself (to include a short video), and asked me if there was anything I was concerned about or wanted to be addressed during the appointment.

When I replied with a list of issues and medications she replied saying "Great, we'll pull this email up during your appointment so that we don't miss anything. If you think of anything else, just reply and we'll make sure we don't miss anything."

I'm already feeling better about changing practices.

Congrats! I hope all works out well with your new primary care giver. My previous GP closed his doors, due to Covid. I did an online search and found a GP which accepts our insurance, as well as offers health care services in addition to the traditional care (weight management and THC/CBD referals/prescriptions). I scheduled an introductory appointment, and transferred my records to his practice. He reviewed the records and immediately noticed that I hadn't had a colonoscopy/endoscopy recently. Right then and there, he wrote out a referral for the procedure, and emphasized that I need to make an appointment for the procedure ASAP. I really appreciate that kind of attitude when it comes to my health. Don't try to sugar coat any issues. Tell me the unvarnished truth and provide a way (or ways) forward on treatment. I am looking forward to the appointment with him next week regarding my knees. Once there, I plan to schedule my annual physical with him and request a very thorough exam, since I am a new patient and his need to know everything about my body and health. I am looking forward to that physical as well.
