24hr. Blood pressure test

Has anyone had to have a 24hr blood pressure test? What was the outcome? What was your experience?

For a long time when I had my annual checkups at the hospital they would complain that my BP was high. Sometimes this was due to having just run/cycled 3 miles from work to the hospital and not being give time to rest. I had regular checks at my GP and they also seemed slightly high, but not as bad. I'd started taking my BP at home myself, and was getting consistently lower readings. Eventually, was requested I did a 24-hr monitoring.

Arrived early morning (on way to work) at GP, where nurse fitted the cuff to my left arm and put the inflation/recording device on my belt. During waking hours (until about 10pm) the machine would automatically take my BP about every 20-30 mins. During the night I think this changes to every 1hr. Generally wasn't too ad after I got used to it. A few times, while I was walking or moving around it did a "double-inflation" which was painful. I did find that as soon as I heard the beep and felt it start to inflate, I reflexly semi-tensed (not good I know). A couple of times overnight it woke me, but think that was due to getting the inflation tube buckled and it having to pump a lot harder.

When returned next morning, nurse removed it and downloaded the recordings. She said they looked good (around 125/75) and a couple of times during the night appeared to be rather low! I was surprised that they "adjust" the recordings of the device up by 5-10 (don't know why). Between her & GP they came to conclusion I have white coat syndrome resulting in elevated BP when being taken at GP or hospital.
