Sexual questions during exam

I was reading a story recently about the NYC gyno charged with sexual misconduct/assault. My gyno (male) does not ask about my sex life during exams... only if I'm having any problems/issues that need to be discussed. So I'm curious to see if anyone is asked about their sex life? The charged gyno would ask patients whether they climax or not, and the quality of their climaxes. There are sexual questions on the paperwork I complete prior to the exam... but nothing specific asked verbally. I wonder if some gyno's pick and choose women they feel that they can push boundaries with.

I find it perfectly acceptable to have a gynecologist ask a patient about her sexuality. It might help to discover issues, and an unfulfilled sexuality can be the cause of serious mental issues beginning with general unhappiness.

But this might be an European view to things that the puritanical United States might condemn.

As a doctor, I would NEVER ask questions during an exam of the genitals. My goal is to try and get the patient (particularly females) to relax and not think about what I am doing. Asking questions about the genitals during the exam (1) may suggest that I am seeing something abnormal that lead to me asking the question, and (2) may make it seem like I am trying to get the patient (particularly males) think about my touching their genitals to result in arousal or erection in males.

I had one creepy older doctor when I was in my mid 20s. I still remember him telling me to pull down my underwear. As he started to examine my genitals, he asked me, "How's the pecker?" I knew what a pecker was, of course. It means 'penis.' But it got my mind thinking about how a chicken pecks at the ground, and how my penis becomes hard and could 'peck' when I get erect. It made me think about getting an erection. That didn't happen, but it has forever made me think that he was being creepy.

OK - having thought about it a little more, yes I might ask about genitals during an exam, but it would be in the context of investigating the patient's complaint of a genital problem. I might ask "does this hurt" when I touch something. I might ask, "how long has this been here?" if I find some type of bump. But I wouldn't ask general sexual questions during the exam. Weird. Period.
