"I posted, on another thread long ago, the link to a woman’s blog about being an American living in France, and her first visit to a doctor. She was quite taken aback after she disrobed completely, I believe with the doctor present, and then realized there was no gown offered. She later laughed about it".
I too came across this blog some time back, I must say that I found it odd that she just stripped off completely in front of the doctor without knowing a gown would be available. Interestingly most English women I know, or have heard about in my part of France always seek out a female doctor.
Obviously for many visits to the doctor here you are not requested to be completely naked, but in the case of something below the belt line then it would appear to be the case. It also is a sound idea to have a good understanding of the language as well, in another blog I read of an English guy who new to France went to see a doctor about a sore throat and thought that he had been asked to strip naked for the examination, but actually had not, much to the amazement of the elderly male doctor.
Of course with dermatology and a full body exam being naked is understandable. I did enquire with my own doctor in conversation about my recent experience and she said of course you need to be completely undressed, "as he needs to see everything". That last quote was spoken with eyes wide and the emphasis that you know what I mean by that.
