My first enemas, one day, were given with a bag, but a couple days later, on the way home from school, Mom took me the drugstore and had me help her pick out an enema bulb for me. I was 5.
I began getting occasional enemas, but when I was 6, I was put on an antibiotic that made me constipated. Mom's solution was to give me enemas Tuesday and Thursday evenings at bath time, and Saturday mornings. I got 2 soapsuds bulb enemas and then a plain water rinse, as much as I could hold, from her bag, what she called a "triple enema." After she made the soapy water (Ivory, of course), she put it into a measuring cup so she could keep track of how much she injected into me, not just counting the number of bulbs she shot into me. Over time, the volume I was given was gradually increased. On Saturdays, I got SSEs with the bulb until the return was clear, then I got two rinse enemas.
Once I was off the med, the routine enemas continued. When I was home from school sick, I was given enemas in the morning until clear, a couple good soapy ones in the afternoon, and then triple enema before I went to bed.
I never got just one enema, ever!
