I'm always suspicious of guys who become gynecologists, its not like they can empathize with the patient. My wife who was a former physician herself, would never see a male Dr or have a male Nurse. She would only be seen by a woman whom she though in her words, could understand the issues, and had more integrity than most male physicians who she had stated when in the medical environment were easily corruptible.
Oh, where do I start with this one?
I know some excellent OB/GYN physicians. Most of the excellent ones are male. Sorry, you don't need to have the same "parts" to have empathy. The WORST I ever met was a woman GYN. As soon as her patients were done having children strongly encouraged them to get hysterectomies as "you don't need your uterus anymore". She was quite rough during exams, because she had the same "parts" and would tell her patients who thought she was too rough that "it isn't that bad" - because of all that female empathy she had, and the fact that she had the same parts and knows what it feels like. She would break a patients amniotic membranes to speed up labor because she didn't want to wait around. Forget that it's not exactly good for mother or baby, SHE was in a hurry.
I'm sorry, but "more integrity than most male physicians" and that we're "easily corruptible"? Sorry, gotta call bullcrap here, too. I think in the "easily corruptible" column the numbers are going to be pretty even, and also not very high.
Sounds to me your wife has issues. That's fine, she can find physicians she is comfortable with, and it's all good.
As a Family Physician who during residency delivered 87 kids, and who in private practice has taken care of the medical needs of more than a few women, INCLUDING their GYN needs, and delivering their kids, I can tell you that it's an awful lot of work to do just to get a glimpse of lady parts.
I didn't go into medicine in order to see naked women and play with their private parts. I could do that easily and for free, saving 10 years of my life and $237,000 in student loan debt.
