Since in England we don't get regular examinations on the NHS it is a moot point,

it is only when we have a problem that we get to see A GP, Not as a preventative or early diagnosis,

routine examinations as it seems is common in the USA would be preferable,

in a play exam, testicles first then penis seems usual.

@Yolo Not sure where you live in England but if you get to see a GP if you have a problem you are pretty damn lucky!

Whenever I have had my physicals done like when I was younger they never even looked at my penis or touched it just my testicles.

I had a nurse practitioner couple years ago during a Cdl physical. Ask if I did any heaving lifting. I replied no not really no. She asked if my regular Medical physician did a testicular exam. I said haven’t been to Doctor in several years. She said let’s go ahead and do a hernia and prostate exam she had me pull my pants underwear down she felt each testicle then picked up my penis pushed back then squeezed the tip looking at the opening. Then had me turn lean on the table stuck her finger up my butt

As I remember, my lifelong pediatrician from Spain always checked everything from the testicles to the penis.First palpation to look for possible hernias or malformations. Then he would lower my underwear, but not before telling my parents. And he would examine my scrotum, testicles and finally he would lift my penis and always told the same thing to his assistant. There is no presence of hernias, testicles in the scrotal sac with a size according to his age. Exposed glans, narrow urethra, correct healing no curvature. And he pulled up my underwear and ended up.

In the US, the pediatrician pulls down my underwear a little. He feels for the testicles and examines them quickly. He only wrote testicles in place with normal growth, circumcised penis with normal appearance.

Had many checks that were just penis with no testicle examination at all. That’s because I had regular UTIs and infections at the head of my penis.

When it has been both done it’s always been penis first.

Inguinal hernia “turn-and-cough” is almost always first and often the only thing that happens. Actual testicular exam has been rare for me. I’ve had my penis examines exactly once in my life.

Last time at my urologist it was penis, testicles, hernia and then turn around and bend over the exam table for the DRE. There was nothing quick about this exam. Very thorough.

A very interesting topic and before that I never thought about the order in which the male genitals are examined. However, it is remarkable that there are differences. Maybe dependencies on the doctor.

Everyone develops their special way in investigations. I have had many studies on my genitals. I come from Germany, maybe it is relatively different in other countries.

At least I had to tense my brain quite strongly to determine the order for the doctors. If this order could be correctly given by me, I would be happy. I have certainly forgotten or confused most of it. With a higher number of examinations, you don't always remember every detail.

In the first examination at the pediatrician, after his statements, my penis was only the goal of his actions due to the longer foreskin. Only then the testicles.

Second examination at the Apprentice, this doctor also looked at my penis closer, and only then my testicles. Third examination in my training, the testicles were first, with the cough handle and then my penis.

The fourth to tenth examination also went in the order, only penis only then testicles. But probably due to the same clinic.

With the different urologists I could no longer separate the order. Some certainly examined the testicles and then only the penis.

Depending on the doctor and institution, there seems to be gross differences. However, I can remember a surgeon that examined my testicles for a very long time and extensively and only then my penis.

My next urological date will only take place at the end of March, maybe this time I will look at how the doctor is going. But I know in his group practice (you always get another doctor allocated), the investigations are also in the process differently.

GPs and PCPs usually have been penis, testicles, hernia.

Urologists in my later age has been penis, scrotum, testicles, then opening the meatus, and finishing with the rectal, prostate.

I have had different ways of examination but mostly it has been standing or being on the exam table :

- having a closer look at and putting/holding penis out of the way

- hernia check

- examination of testicles and scrotum

- pushing foreskin back once or a few times, last time retracting completely

- palpation of penis from between legs to the glans

- palpation of the glans itself and checking meatus, flexibility of the foreskin by retracting it as far as possible, checking frenulum

When I have had my genitals examined it is usually my penis and then my balls but it is so quick I am sad when it is over hehe

First underwear off lying down then shines a bright light on them then runs gloved fingers through pubic hair, palpates shaft of penis, retracts foreskin then shines a flashlight down the meatus to look down, examines testicles and cords then hernia check then repeat same exam while standing legs spread shoulder width apart.

I've not had "routine" examination of genitals since I was a young man, I think. I recall that this examination was only about the testicles; but I'm visibly circumcised so there is nothing much to check on the penis side.

My role play doctor takes time to give my genitals a lengthy visual exam with him sitting in front of me.

He retracts my foreskin fully to exam my penis thoroughly asking about my recent ejaculations. He measures my penis length and girth before turning to my scrotum for examation of my testes individuals. Further genital examinations take place with me face up in the frog leg position including auscultation after my rectal exam.

The routine never seems to vary from one year to the next. While standing in front of the seated doctor he checks my penis and balls and then I bend over the table for the rectal exam. However, since I had radiation for prostate cancer, there isn’t much to feel back there!

Usually, hernia, penis, testicles, rectal. (I've had prostate issues even before I hit 50, so I've had DRE's since I was about 30. I'm 62 now.)

I had both orders of the exam happen. My pediatrician and GP usually went by the order testicles then penis. At the urologist it’s usually the other way around.

My doctors have never examined my penis unless I was there for a penis specific problem.
