This is a new one on me! I've seen one or two images or videos of it. Does anyone here know anything more?
The patient in the recent video I watched is a young boy. He opens his mouth and the doctor, wearing a head-lamp, presses down his tongue with a tongue depressor. So far so familiar! But in her other hand the doctor grasps a corded instrument with a 'trigger' and a long pencil-thickness metal 'barrel' which she inserts just an inch or two into the patient's mouth, then appears to tap with it. Then she immediately withdraws it.
The caption to the video calls it an 'ENT telescope' and I found other videos on the same page that appear to show that it can be used in conjunction with a TV screen. But that doesn't appear to happen here. So I'm slightly puzzled!
Hmm. The doctor isn't using it as a light (as I say, she's wearing a lamp on her forehead) nor, as far as I can tell, as a dental-probe, or similar.
The video I mentioned is a very short one, about 10 seconds. The curious can view it here:
Any help appreciated.
