In the news: Ex-athletes say Ohio State doc groped, ogled men for years

Not everyone reacts to abuse the same way, and shame/guilt/trauma goes a long way in preventing people from reporting incidents as they happen. There's no reason to disbelieve these accounts by athletes, just like there's no reason to disbelieve #metoo accounts.

People in power sometimes abuse their power. I don't consider these accusations outrageous.

Indeed everyone reacts differently. But i think with historical accusation that its next to impossible to prove and so damaging to the acused if innocent.

Everyone is guilty till proven innocent.

I was sexually abused as a girl on a couple of occassions and i didnt tell anyone for fear what might happen.

When i was a little older and he attempted again i told him i am not a girl anymore and i would cut his balls if he so much as looked at me.

Still never told anyone in real world and certainly wont be jumping on the #meto band wagon.

Its in the past and i have moved on, I dont understand why someone would want to drag it all up again so much time later.

Susie was right on when she said "That's exactly what SHOULD be done.." Unfortunately a lot of families, school officials, and others don't/can't communicate and end up NOT doing what SHOULD be done.

@Gregb had the kind of relationship with his parents to tell them that he thought what happened was inappropriate and his folks trusted and believed him and took action. Maybe their action prevented others from being abused. Unfortunately, not a lot of family's have that kind of relationship or openness with their children.

I think some folks who feel they have been victimized and felt they didn't have an outlet previously jump on that #metoo bandwagon because they have folks they feel they can relate to, and it's a way for them to bond with others they feel experienced something similar. Like being on a deserted island, finally discovering other folks on the island who had also felt deserted. Then they bond over it.

People have various ways of coping with it. For some, there are various reasons why they re-visit it. I've chatted with several of them, exploring the effects with them.
