Kenneth77In the UK, temperatures were taken in the mouth under the arm and occasionally in the ear. We did have patch thermometers that took the temperature of a persons skin but that was not very conclusive !
My pediatrician gave me a rectal exam once in a while and had used a rectal thermometer on me until age 8 or 9, and at times in my teens.
For young women who are nudged by their moms to get exams and paps, having a nurse take their rectal temperature may be a little embarrassing, but it shouldn't send them into shock – at least not my two millennials.
(wide eyed, jaw dropped, pausing video or stopping texting on cell phone, possibly even placing it aside....)Umm...... Seriously? Really? Like THERE (pointing to their toochis) Well............ Yaaaaaa ... uhhhhh OK .....(lays on stomach or side as instructed, picks up cell phone resumes video or texting)Pretty much it!

And in your profession, you should know!My two, the older would be pretty quiet and just do what the nurse asks. My younger...I wouldn't be surprised if she videoed it. Yikes!
@bridgette For the first time in my life as a kindergarten teacher assistant, I saw the ph strip forehead magnet "thermometer". Quite different from the traditional forehead scan or ear thermometer. Definitely way cheaper for sure.
I think the fact that many of them might have gone to the vet and seen it done routinely there might break the ice for them. It will be going the way of the dodo bird eventually with new infrared technology. I have temp guns and can shoot any surface from 10 feet away and get an accurate temp to within a tenth of a degree and within a second or two. Rectal will soon be a thing of the past as patients where monitors that provide that information 24/7. There is still a use for rectal temps at a murder scene as a rectal temp can tell them how long they have been deceased.
Actually if you check I think you will find that the way temp is checked on murder victims is by putting a pointed prob thermometer thru the skin and into the Liver. They have not done rectal temps on murder victims in decades.

You can also use it on your play patients when they are dead.https://www.thermoworks.com/Thermapen-Mk4?gclid=Cj0KCQjwrZLdBRCmARIsAFBZllG9l_3urkh7zeoWuK8fGKJpjNqrFSjK5pbHi9SzmtID6O35BsAyUT4aAvfWEALw_wcB

It's an interesting question. Personally I know almost everything there is to know about rectal temperatures and I know exactly what one of those little things feels like when it's a few inches deep in my bottom. 😃On a more serious note however I wouldn't be surprised if many didn't. Growing up it I can't think of any reference made my any of my friends ever about this subject and in medicine temperature taking in every location bar the ear seems to have been lost to the history books.
I'm on the older end of the millennial spectrum, and while the doctor I saw was pretty old-school in many of the things he did, I never remember having had my temperature taken rectally. I'm sure it happened when I was a baby, but by the time I reached an age when I could follow instructions, I had to hold an electronic thermometer under my tongue. When I was very young (single-digit ages), I remember my mom had one of those color-changing forehead mood-ring style "thermometers" that I liked. It showed a smiley face if your temp was normal and a frowny face if it was high or low. It was very imprecise but ok for a rough approximation. If it didn't show a smiley face, it usually meant that I'd use a simple oral digital thermometer for a more quantifiable reading. If I were presented with a rectal thermometer today? Well, because I'm here on this site, I'm obviously familiar with the concept. I wouldn't be scandalized by the idea but rather perplexed that something that's been replaced by easier and more convenient tools. I'd see it similar to someone using a fountain pen. It's interesting and enthusiasts like it, but it's not the best tool for the job for the average person.
Most rectal temps I took were Millennials. They did not experience it at the doctor's office, but most enjoyed it. Most females enjoy anal play if it's done correctly. It's the assclown men that try to have anal sex with no lube that cause women to shy away from anal.
I'm 23 and don't recall having it ever be taken that way. It's possible that it happened when I was a baby but don't remember. If a real doctor wanted to take it that way I'd be embarrassed, but when I imagine a session with a play doctor I think it would be erotic.
Hahahha, I’m pretty sure for the first ten minutes they’d giggle and mess around, then feel disgust and finally some good ole curiosity.
That is an interesting question. When growing up that was the ONLY way to have your temperature taken. It was with the glass MERCURY thermometer with a bulbous head, The oral thermometers had a straight head. The digital thermometers today do not represent anything to the old thermometers. The flavor of things today, I think if you even attempted to take a millennial's temperature rectally they would scream sexual abuse and would call law enforcement and you would get locked up. That's how bad todays society is at.
