Penis exam at dermatologist

Wondering if anyone here has been examined for Pearly penile papules. What was your experience when it was discussed with a doctor? Seems like a legitimate question to ask a dermatologist about.... They don't like when patients Google and self diagnose anyway.

I have a dermatologist appointment coming up and I'm interested in asking but a little overwhelmed because there is another person (nurse) in the room.

Certainly the dermatologist will be able to tell you if they are benign, or something serious like HPV or Chlamydia. She's probably seen them before, so just ask!

I've had 2 times in the past where I've had to ask a doc about something similar - one a Primary Care doc and the other a [female] dermatologist.

Just thinking about asking about this gives me butterflies in my stomach. I'm nervous about asking about this, so awkward, especially with the nurse in the room (she has the ipad for documentation and pictures - I doubt they will photograph this concern- more butterflies :|)

How did it go? I asked my female dermatologist about the skin near my meatus opening. She had me drop my pants and took a close look. She assured me there was nothing wrong but offered to bring in the male dermatologist to verify.

Exam isn't for a few weeks, for asking. I wonder how the 'male dermatologist' could help, was your female doctor implying she would touch to take the closer look but he would? Still don't know if I have the guts to ask about the papules since google had the answer- I know I'm not a doctor and google isn't always a good idea but this really isn't something else , I think ?

Your profile doesn't give much information, like your age, nor do we know whether or not you have had a dermatologist examine you before. It may be that you have as you seem to know that there will be a female nurse present. That seems to be your biggest fear.

Is your dermatologist a female? If so, is that a problem for you? Are you fearful of any dermatologist, male or female, examining your penis and you discussing your concerns and questions about your condition with them?

The more information we know, the more helpful we can be.

With what I know, or think I know, about you situation I strongly suggest that you ask any questions you may have even though you think you have had your questions answered by Google or other places on the Internet. Whether there is a nurse, female or male, in the room is irrelevant and whether the dermatologist is male or female is also irrelevant. For your own mental and physical health you need to have this exam and your questions need to be asked and answered to your satisfaction.

There is nothing to be embarrassed about. They will most certainly be very professional. They have seen and heard it all before. Once you are gone they will completely forget about what they saw and discussed with you. They have better things to do and remember. You should be very calm and composed during the exam. Act like it is no big deal.... because it isn't. It will all be over soon.

I would suggest just whispering your concern quietly to the dermatologist. That way, both the derm doc and the nurse will realize you're sensitive, shy, & awkward about it, & will perhaps try to make you feel at ease.

Your health should take priority over any reservations you have about looking into something. Always better to be safe than sorry.

Thank you both for the feedback and suggestions. I have had exams before, and I have posted the details. This is my second annual visit with this doctor, she is female and so is the nurse. I was very comfortable with her last year and she was the first doctor I've had in a while who seemed comfortable with a relatively thorough examination.

After thinking about it more, I realized that my fear is the awkwardness of being looked at as a perv. If the concern was obviously legitimate and serious, I would certainly be at the doctor right away and ask. I think the fear (perhaps irrational) is for asking about a minor concern and being looked at as a perv for trying to get a more intimate exam. This would be very awkward and my stammering or stupid way of asking might get me into trouble.

Truth be told, last year she was great about it when I mentioned that I had something on the scrotum, she took matters into her own hands when she got up to that part of the exam.

Well I had my appointment at the dermatologist and here is what went on.

The exam was exactly as I described last year ( https://www.zity.biz/index.php?mx=forum;ox=display;msg=840144) except that, even though I told the medical assistant that brought me into the room during her questions about my concerns about something on the penis, the doctor didn't get the message and did not lower the front of my briefs. At he end of the full body exam, since she didn't ask, I said, "can I ask about something related to the genitals?" she said yes, So I said "I have something like small skin tags on the top of the corona", so she said "Can you show me?". So I lowered the front of my briefs and (my nervous, cold room shriveled penis exposed) and showed her ... she looked an right away responded "That is Pearly Penile Papules- benign and it's nothing to worry about." That's it, no big deal.

It is interesting that as a second visit to this doctor, knowing what to expect took away a lot of the apprehension (and excitement) about what would happen. The truth is that all of the fetish discussion here and build up of exam related concerns is often a just that, the doctor is professional and just doing their job, looking at people all day. So what I'm trying to say is it was just, well, normal. Yes I was in a room in just black briefs, with door open for too long while the doctor spoke to someone else in the hallway, and the nurse and her female assistant in the room while she touched me all over without gloves....but all in all just doing her job albeit an atypical one...where she has to examine nearly naked folks all day. It was fine...I survived and happy to report no skin concerns of note.

I was about 16 when I had my pearly penis papules inspected.

It came about after watching a film at school about std, vd, etc. On the film there was a close up of a glans with some discharge coming out of the meatus. Also in the same shot, I could see a row of pearly penile papules -ppp’s - running along the corona of the glans. I thought it was related to having an std. Naturally I was concerned, bit the weird thing was that I had not any sex with anyone!

To put my mind to rest, I went to see my GP. I told him about my concerns. He wanted me to show him , so I stood, undid my trousers, showed him my penis and pulled my foreskin right back. I had to show him the papules as he was looking a bit quizical. I felt he had no idea what I was talking about.

To appease me, he prescribed a Canesten cream to apply to the glans corona. Needless to say, it made no difference at all. I was initially quite embarrassed about my ppp’s, until the advent of the internet whereby I saw many images of ppp’s, and also discussions.

I now find them quite a turn on whenever I see them on other, in fact, I like to see them on a glans.

It is interesting to note that they seem to be more common on intact penises as opposed to circumcised, also more common on those of black, African skin colour for some reason. Which makes satisfies me that ppp’s are totally normal and harmless.

My dermatologist inspected my penis at the exam but it was very different from how it happens at my pediatrician’s exams. The pediatrician felt it and did more of what I’d consider an exam while the dermatologist just looked at it (touching it only to move it in order to see the rest), which I’d consider an inspection. I just use the two words to differentiate a quick look vs an actual exam. Also, one was underwear off while the other was just pulling down the front.

Once at the dermatologist for acne, I was accidentally given a full body inspection for any possible moles that look like cancer by a beautiful young doctor. I can still remember her ungloved hand accidentally brushing against my shaft as she lifted it up to examine for any abnormalities before pulling my foreskin back. Let’s just say, I was plesantly surprised by the experience

It took me years to find a competent dermatologist, who was able to diagnose, and resolve an issue with melanoma cancer. Fortunately, he was able to treat it, before it spread. The doctor examined my entire body, and determined that there were no further concerns. His female assistant was in the room, entering notes on his tablet. I wouldn't be apprehensive about having a woman present, since your health is a top priority. Unless she jumps back, and heads for the door, I don't think that she would think anything of it. It's part of the job.

I've been having “full body” skin exams for the part 8 years or so, and for the 1st time, a dermatologist actually at least looked at my penis, after asking about if I had any concerns in my crotch area of something (I forgot how she worded it), and I said I'm not sure.. it's never really been checked and there might be places I can't see", and once she offered to look, took her up on it. So she lifted the waistband of my jockstrap to either side of my cock, and gave a quick peek to each side. By the time she grabbed it on the 2nd side, the blood flow had shifted in that direction.

I started annual dermatologist appointments about two years ago. The first time was a minimal exam. I had shorts on because it was summer and she did the whole “any concerns under your shorts?” and I said no, and it was left at that. When I went a year later I wore jeans and was asked to strip to my underwear and put on this tiny paper gown. She was a bit more thorough then and asked if she could pull down the backside of my underwear to check, which I said was fine, but she didn't ask about the front. As others have said, I'm a bit hesitant to ask since there's two women in the room, and while I know it's what they do and they are professional, just get some amount of anxiety asking “hey can you look at penis.” While I don't have any concerns I'm also not sure what I'd be looking for; their biggest concern on my whole body is a mole between two of my toes, so it's like maybe I should ask them to check everything next time to be sure.

I asked at the dermatologist to look at genitals during my last exam- it was just to be sure and make sure everything was okay. I had to sign a ‘genital release for exam’ form. I guess in FL they've had issues with being sued in the past. But it was fine.

I had a dermatologist exam a few years back, not at my regular dermatologist, and it also stopped in the middle when a genital exam was brought up.

During the exam she asked if I wanted genital areas checked and was shocked when I said yes, since I think the assistant was supposed to ask that before the exam started... She then stopped the exam and gave me a drape to put on top of my lap, but I was already in a gown with briefs, she then left the room with the assistant so "I could change"…. Meaning just remove my briefs....then they returned with me in a gown with a drape. That was crazy, but at least she really checked everywhere.

She also has me lay on the table on my side so she can inspect my anus for cysts. I am usually at least semi-hard from the beginning of the exam and all the way hard by the end. My erection seems mostly irrelevant to the exam.

The dermatologist who has been doing the full body skin exams these last 2 times has not had an assistant with her, unlike my original dermatologist at the same place. The last time, the assistant brought me back to the room, got the lap top started with updating the info, then left and did not return with the derm doc. This could either be due to covid concerns, or maybe because this derm doc is not in the habit of calling out observations to an assistant who takes the notes on the laptop.

Since I had never mentioned anything about concerns with my genitals, maybe it was anticipated that she wouldn't be checking them during my most recent visit. But when I responded that I wasn't sure, that maybe there are spots I don't/can't observe and was okay with her checking, if opening up that possibility might lead her to now have an assistant present on the next visit.

This time around, she only lifted my jockstrap to either side of my cock and did a brief look-in on each side. But maybe with an assistant present, she may have been more thorough like what CompliantGuy experiences.

And my anus has never been checked for cysts. And with it practically being exposed in my jockstrap, I would think she would use a few fingers to spread the cheek just enough to check.

Last dermatologist exam the dr had me lay down and lifted the gown and checked penis and scrotum for any abnormal skin tags or skin growths. Also had me stand and spread my cheeks and checked my back side.

I recently had to change dermatologists as the beautiful redhead I've been seeing twice a year for the last 5 years just left to open her own practice in a neighboring state.

Guess I lucked out and got placed with another gorgeous doc in the same practice. She does skin exams a bit different. Still in underwear with a paper drape. But after looking at my arms and scalp while in a seated position, she asked me to lie on my back to look at my chest and legs. She then gently lifted the waistband of my briefs for a quick peek at the public area. No, she didn't pull them low enough to look at my penis or scrotum.

Then she asks me to roll over and says “take your time” as she clearly understands the awkward nature of navigating an exam table wearing nothing but briefs and making a half-ass attempt to remain under the drape. She then looks at my back and back of my legs before once again lifting the waistband of my shorts for a quick peek at my upper buttocks.

Just those quick peeks under my underwear really make all the difference, especially since I wasn't expecting to feel her fingers down there. Already looking forward to my next appointment in 5 months.

There's a benign issue on my penis that gets monitored every year. It's not PPP. One year, they had a dermatologist look at it, take some very up close pictures with a camera, and said that there isn't much to worry about, nor would any remedy be physically or aesthetically acceptable. I had a female urologist do a biopsy on a small growth on my scrotum. This happened twice.

Two years ago during a regular exam at my female dermatologist, I explained to her that I had a redness on my glans. Before I lay down on the exam table, I asked her if I should take off all my clothes and she said yes that’s better.

So I laid down on my stomach, completely naked. She inspected me thoroughly from head to toe passing over the buttocks which she spread and then she asked me to turn over on my back. She again inspected me thoroughly from head to toe but without touching my genitals. I simply pulled my foreskin to show her the redness around my glans.

The other times I kept my panties on and she just quickly lifted the elastic to have a look.
