Rectal Temperatures In The Middle Of The Night

Has anyone ever woken up feeling warm in the middle of the night? You wake up and go to your mom and you tell her that you don't feel good and you end up getting your temperature taken rectally when you were little or moved to a cool spot of the house and being found and felt on the face that you were warm get a rectal temperature taken in the middle of the night?

I have. I know that I posted this under another topic. When I was 4 years old and the heat in the house was turned down low, I woke up really warm and not feeling well. So I moved to the lowest part of the house which was the living room floor.

My mom gets up about 5 minutes later and sees me in the living room floor and has the feeling that I was not feeling well. It was cold in the house with the heat being turned down low. My mom feels my face and forehead and gets the feeling that I have fever.

Then she silently goes to the kitchen while my dad was asleep and gets the rectal thermometer and comes back to the living room sofa. Then I drop my pj bottoms and underwear and just lay over my mom's lap. I start feeling the cool air going over my rear end and I feel my mom put her hand onto my cheeks and separates them. Then I feel my mom insert the nice cold rod into my rectum very easy and releases my cheek.

My mom has one hand at the lower part of my back and the other cupped around the thermometer on my rear end. As I am laying there, sometimes I have both of my arms hanging down touching the floor or one hand on my mom's leg and the other one hanging down to the floor.

I was also laying there relexed for the entire 5 minutes until it was removed. My mom got results that I had fever and gave me some meds for kids and went back to bed. On the next morning, I was back over my mom's lap for the second time to be sure that I did not have anymore fever.

I had many middle-of-the-night experiences with the thermometer and suppositories. I was put in my parents’ bed and my dad held me down as I always kicked and screamed when my mom put anything up my butt

As a little child, I got suppositories the same way as you describe...

My ex did that a few times during our relationship. I remember one night I woke up and couldn't sleep . She asked me what was wrong and I told her nothing. She got up and went to the bathroom and came back with everything she needed to take my temperature, as soon as I saw the jar of vaseline I knew what I was in for. She sat down on the bed and told me to get my pajama bottoms off she then patted her thighs with her hand and said come on get across. After she was done she told me I had a fever and to lay down and try to rest and she'd be back in about an hour to check me again

Yes, I've had that done at various points in my life. I was in a relationship with an ex-coworker, who I found out also had a fetish for rectal thermometery, and every once in awhile, we would wake eachother up in the middle of the night to check our temperature. I think it made us more intimate because of the caring aspect of a rectal temp taking. Sometimes we would fall back asleep after the thermometer was withdrawn; other times, it led to some great sex!

I had my temperature taken by my Mom in the middle of the night several times, even in high school. When I felt real hot that I would wake up, I went into my parent’s room and woke my Mom. She got the thermometer and a jar of Vaseline and came into my room. She would sit on the bed and I would lie over her lap, and she took my temperature. If it was high it was taken again in the morning and she would call the pediatricians office. When I was in the hospital, temperatures were taken by routine every 4 hours, so that included in the middle of the night. The nurse would tsp you a few times to wake you send have you turn over on the bed. After she was done with me I watched as my roommate took his turn.

I’ve never been lucky enough to have it, but it would definitely be a great thing to wake up to.

A few years ago, my wife woke up with some pain in the middle of the night. I woke up when I heard her move around in bed and moan in pain. She told me she had pain in her lower abdomen. She was in enough pain that I was concerned it might be appendicitis. I felt her forehead and she was sweating a little but didn't feel warm to the touch, I didn't think that she could hold the thermometer in her mouth. I went in the bathroom and retrieved the rectal thermometer and some petroleum jelly. I rolled her onto her stomach and lowered her pajamas bottoms and panties. I lubed the thermometer and inserted into her upturned backside. Her temperature came back perfectly normal after 3 minutes. I got her some Advil for the pain which eventually kicked in.

It was something you stood a good chance of experiencing as a patient in a hospital ward. Pretty much every four hours And it could be in the middle of the night.

I don't recall that. I think she checked in the morning, possibly during the day if I appeared to be especially hot, perhaps in the evening. In hospital I think it was morning and evening.

No butt it would be amazing if someone did that to me 🌡( hint hint 😉)

It's never happened to me but I have heard stories that decades ago, kids in the hospital would often wake up to find a nurse rolling them on the side to take their rectal temperatures several times in the night.

When i was 22 and nearly died of meningitis, rectal temps were taken every few hours around the clock, I was so out of it and limp, I couldnt do anything about it but usually two nurses or a nurse and an aid came in and rolled me on my side, completely naked, no gown, and I knew what they were doing everytime. I remember one nurse and her young aid around my age had an excited giggle during it. This went on for the first 2 days and nights every few hours around the clock so that was a lot of times. Even though I was weak and very out of it with high fever, it was super embarassing and humilating and usually was more than one nurse or aid participating who were probably students.

When I was a kid mom or gram checked my temp in the night, if I was sick.

I have actually done this before to a few patients that have stayed over. They had no idea that I would wake them up in the middle of the night just to turn on the light, pull back the covers to take her temperature. To this day they still talk about it and the sensation it gave them mentally and physically.

Yes. I thought I responded to this. Maybe it was the other post. But, yes mom would do that if either my sister or I was sick with a temp until our temp broke. It was annoying like if my sister was sick in the middle of the night mom would come in and turn on the light. Pull her covers down and then her PJ bottoms down and shake the thermometer and coat it with vaseline and slide it into her bottom. Then hold it there and wait. Then she would take it out and wipe it with tissue and read it. It was annoying to my sister also if I was sick. The next morning mom would wake me up for school. I would tell her I wanted to stay home like sis. She would say,"sis is sick." I would say yeah but I was kept awake by you coming in and taking her temp every few hours. Then mom would tell me, "get dressed young lady you are going to school." After I caught my sister masturbating and I started or we started masturbating together it was a different story. After she would take whoever was sicks temperature the not sick would climb in bed with the sick one and we would masturbate. We would be hoping we would both be sick to stay home from school. It only worked a few times. 😢 LOL

Yes, my dear husband got up at 3am to take my rectal temperature and give a acetaminophen suppository when I was running an elevated fever.

It’s a long story that I have repeated a few times here, other than to say that suppositories to manage a fever need to be inserted every 4 to 6 hours. I had multiple facial surgeries and could not take medication orally. When I developed a fever, my doctor recommended acetaminophen rectally to keep me comfortable overnight. They actually helped me sleep. My husband took my temp at 10pm and gave me the medication, then again at about 3am.

When I remember is being very sleepy, being on my side and feeling the Vaseline, the glass thermometer, and the suppository being inserted and held for a few seconds. This was way back in 1984 when my husband and I had been married only a short time. What a wonderful way to lose my newlywed inhibitions!! Lol We are still wonderfully married and still keep suppositories in the fridge!

Once I jolted awake when the thermometer was removed and I began to feel a suppository being slipped in! I squirmed away, but my mother had made up her mind so there was no getting out of it. She said “ no no no, come on, you’re getting this.” And she pulled me back over and stuck it all the way in this time.

No I never have had a rectal temperature taken in the middle of the night.

Got a many thermometers in my butt in the middle of the night . Seems like your temperature always goes up at night. 70’s and 80’s if our foreheads and neck was hot as we got older first mom would take a Oral temperature. if we was running a temperature of 100 or more and we were complaining about not feeling well, ear aches or sore throat. she would get the rectal thermometer take it again along with Tylenol suppository and repeat temperature every couple hours . Then take you to the pediatrician office first thing in the morning, she would let the nurse know she took a rectal temperature. So you would get the same there too. More then likely get a shot in the butt as well

Yes, I got them when I last came down with malaria. Had very hot fevers and severe weakness. My boyfriend and my mother took care of me. Rectal temps were administered often in this phase, every few hours. I could sense it was being done at night too but was too out of it to care really. Even in my groggy state, I was gently turned, my bottom lubed and the thermometer inserted by one of them while the other helped with all this. Twice I got injections in my bottom too by a doc friend who visited. Suppositories as well. I didn't like those but didn't have a choice or the strength to protest. My guy and my mother fussed a lot over me and my bottom in order to nurse me back to health. I am glad I have them in my life 😀

Glad to hear you’re better. Those of us who are accustomed to and understanding the need for rectal temperature takings during illness may well heal somewhat sooner as that particular procedure is one that many of us are not prone to experience angst with. No trepidation or concern. A multi second to three minute procedure depending on the thermometer type used, but an accurate temperature given which also tells the medical person/ people treating us what to look for and how to proceed. And yes , sometimes we are too sick or too out of it to really care. Realize too, the temperature taker does care! Heading us to better health.

Last, being it is usually taken about every four hours a midnight reading is not uncommon.

Yes, in fact we do. The thermometer is a Taylor brand and inscribed “instanta.” I imagine it would be a collectors item today, and it’s as accurate as it was in the 1960s when my mom bought it at a Rexall drug when I was a baby.

I don’t remember about mom using it on me when I was little, I guess she must have at times, because she kept it in the medicine drawer with the Vaseline. She also had a glass oral thermometer that she would stick under my tongue when I was growing up.

I do remember when I was in high school being sick with a respiratory infection, and my mom and a neighbor retired nurse taking my temp rectally with the Taylor thermometer. The nurse told mom to take my rectal temperature lying on my side, not on my stomach so it wouldn't inhibit my breathing.

Mom passed along the thermometer to me when my husband and I were married in 1984. Thanks, mom! One of those wedding presents I’ll always cherish. Lol Actually, it turned out to be essential in our family a few times.

I remember getting woke up at night and getting them. I would end up getting some kind of suppository afterwards. It never made me poop so I don't know what it was. I know it made efeel better.

Remember receiving rectal temps during hospital stay in 67'. I had fell off to sleep early eve. and at shift change the third shift nurse making her rounds and abruptly rolling me over and snatching underpants down for my greasy glass intruder for charting. Same nurse gave me a sign off and out enema when dismissal was proclaimed for me with parent sitting bedside. I was 12 y.o. and attained a rigid erection with face buried into pillow from embarrassing humiliation from being nozzled and my physical state as it was. Remember butt shots also with the alcohol swab just prior to the jab.

I was the youngest. Five years behind my next oldest brother so for five years after mom switched him to oral, I still got rectal.

My mom and gram were like that they just could tell. And you had a thermometer in your butt pretty quickly after that.
