"You needed it"

When I was in elementary school, I would often become constipated.

If I had trouble pooping, mom would "unclog" me with glycerin suppositories. Sometimes she would ask me not to flush the toilet after doing my post-suppository bowel movement.

I recall her looking into the bowl and saying "You definitely needed it!". The shame.

For all the attention that my parents paid to quantity-of-excrement (as well as how frequently we did some), really if anything came out it was taken as proof that we "needed" the suppository. Certainly they would make remarks like that if the suppository insertion was part of a punishment.

It was always the same for me, during childhood. The post-suppository bowel movement was obviously checked and then the remarks would follow!

Although we got enemas every Saturday, and a dose of Fletcher's Castoria every night at bedtime, Sis and I would receive a Dulcolax suppository any morning that the laxative didn't work first thing. They were not for punishment, just to force a BM. We got them before breakfast, and had to keep them in until the meal was finished. ur movement was always inspected, and if Mom (or Aunt Rachel) was not satisfied, we got a suppository. If our suppository-induced BM wasn't satisfactory, we were kept home from school and given SSE's every hour until we ran clear. Finally, we were given a saline rinse, and allowed to rest around the house all day. Aunt Rachel lived next door, and on days when I was getting enemas all day, She and Mom usually gave a couple to each other. I presume that they did this frequently while Sis and I were in school. Rachel's two girls were raised on enemas, too. I'm convinced that although both told us, "You need an enema." that the truth was that they enjoyed giving them to us. The result of our upbringing is four chronically constipated klismaphiles, who love our enemas today.
