Has your doctor ever commented on or examined your navel? What was the reason for your visit and what did they say or do?

Yes, I remember it clearly. It was my first postnatal pediatric exam. 😁

My belly button has never been examined. I don’t really know why this would even be necessary as the belly button is probably the most useless body part?.

Oh, I had many exams in my teenaged time because of my a gnarly protruding navel. The very first I cam remember was when I was 10. I got the first school exam at the grammar school and a letter by the school doctor for my mom, in which the school doctor noticed several things that should be examined and cleared up more intensively. I got those letters every year, I had them still, and the school doctors were always complaint about my abdominal problems with often nausea, vomiting, fallings with clear underweight (and later underdevelopment and lack of puberty), but in all letters he also made a complaint of my gnarly protruding bellybutton (outie navel) and that it hurt during palpation and that I would have a navel hernia, that had to be cleared up and examined more thoroughly.

So after this first school exam, my mom took me then very often and regularly to a new paediatrician and when he saw me naked at the very first visit he at once noticed my outie navel and was also really worried about it and examined it always then with longer inspection and intense, hard and deeply uncomfortable poking and palpation.

The same happened then when I was staying in the Childrens Clinic at age 15 because of my abdominal problems (suspicion of crohn´s disease and cancer!): i was examined by several doctors (every morning by paediatricians, then by surgeons, urologist and an oncologist) and several times by a gastroenterologist, who I didn´t liked at all since the very first exam! They always examined long on my stomach and my navel, too, I had to visit the gastro-doc after the clinic-stay regularly then and I absolutely hated the exams by him, because he always examined so long on my stomach (during that I mostly got really nausea and sometimes an urge to vomit!); and he always examined especially on my protruding navel (nearly as long as on my stomach befure), about which he was always very worried and uncontent! He already knew me as "the boy with the sick abdomen and protruding navel/navel hernia"! He inspected my outie bellybutton always very closely, did a very long palpation then during that he poked it hardly in several times (like the paediatrician), but he also squeezed my navel several times between his fingers and tried to pull it more out (as far as possible!) several times, too. That was always so aching, I was mostly nausea afterwards and felt that burning and pulling pain for the next one to two days. During the ultrasound he also examined also directly on and around my outie bellybutton for some time, too. I didn´t like that at all and was also very embarrassed about that all.

I had some similar exams by a public health doctor (directly before I was sent into the hospital) and later by the military exams and by two company doctors, who also criticized my abdominal problems and gnarly outie navel.

No, but at my gyn appt the other day, after he was done, he was still between my legs and talking to me and he reached up and poked me in the belly button. Not sure if he meant to or was just going to touch me and hit the navel. He's the type that when talking to you will reach over and give a light touch on the arm at times. (No, I don't find it inappropriate, I kind of like it) The poke in the belly button took me by surprise so much that I forget what he was saying.

When we were children the school nurse came around frequently and examined us. We had to strip down. We could only keep on our panties. She used to poke into our navels as well. I kind of liked it when she did it.

My last physical the doctor spent a good deal of time looking into my navel, spreading it apart, manipulating it, and pressing all around it. While he was doing this he was asking a bunch of questions about pain, tenderness, symptoms, etc. I'm pretty sure he did not stick his finger down in it, but he seemed very interested in it for some reason. I assumed he was checking for a hernia but don't know for sure.

Once - I had been spending a lot of time in the woods one summer, and somehow got a wood tick in my belly button. Couldn't get the head out, so on my next regular doctor visit she managed to back it out with a tweezer. Said that was a first for her!!

It seemed like a really long time, but was probably no more than a minute. He didn't appear to be nervous. Lying down for the abdominal and standing up for the hernia exam he was just really focused on that area and spent a lot of time poking and prodding me. Constantly asking me about pain, tenderness, and other symptoms. Maybe there's something he's not telling me... ?

My navel is pierced and at my last physical, my doctor asked if it bothered me. He thought it looked inflamed.

The only time I ever recall any type of examination of my navel was during the followup visit with my surgeon after an appendectomy. It was a laparoscopic procedure with an incision in my navel. During this exam, a single stitch was removed from my navel. The doctor also advised me that he noted an umbilical hernia at the time of the surgery. I had never been aware of any type of hernia before this instance.

Yes, as part of the abdominal exam. It was done to see if I had an umbikical herrnia. The doctor gently pressed on my navel and inside the navel wall (until recently I had a deep innie).

Just be sure to keep your inny belly button clean to avoid infection. You certainly don’t want a case of athletes button! Make it a part of your shower routine.

I imagine it's a good idea to make sure it's dry, no water left in, after a shower to prevent fungus…

I can remember one my exams as a kid the doctor prodding around during my abdominal exam, poking inside my belly button presumably to check for an umbilical hernia. I have a deep innie and my partner fingers inside when I'm the patient in a play exam.

About 10-12 years ago I got a bug (woodtick) in my belly button. I picked at it but didn't get the head out. At my regular Dr. appointment she used a tweezer and cleaned it out. My belly button was red and itchy, she had me keep an antibiotic on it and then I used some cortisone to relieve the itching. Cleared up in a couple of weeks.

Never in a real exam, but several times in play. My first time was before I knew what medfet was and I had a b/f that insisted on me laying down where upon he would expose my belly button and prod it.

In 1951, the National Association of Broadcasters established its Code of Practices for Television Broadcasters. Among other things, display of a woman's navel was prohibited. It stayed in place till 1983 if I recall. Cher like to show hers off…

I recall an article where Barbara Eden said she was not allowed to show her belly button when she appeared in “I dream of Jeanie” wearing a bikini top and pantaloons.

I guess a woman's navel that's an innie looks too much like a vagina; hence the television practice code against it. Perhaps they were right - as kids we would fool around lifting our shirts and squeezing our belly button so it appear vagina-like.

Twice I remember this happening. The first time was during the chest and abdominal exam when I was a week from turning 6 (which I've posted about elsewhere). The doctor felt it, then tickled it, which made me giggle.

The second time I was about 12. This time the doctor ( different one) was very frank about what he was doing: “Now I'm going to check your bellybutton.” He felt the cord w/his fingers in a swirling motion, and said it was healthy (meaning no hernia). No tickling this time, darn it.

@Aether what kind of attention? What does the doctor do? Does it make you feel any particular way?

I got a wood tick or some other bug bite in my navel. Mild infection or irritation that lasted a long time. My doc inspected it and recommended using an antibiotic creme. Didn’t find anything stuck in there. I think it might have been a chigger bite where your own antihistamines from dead cells make it itch and keep it an open sore. Scratching aggravates it. Mine lasted six to eight weeks.

I’ve noticed that my belly button was fun to play when I had it pierced in my teens and the piercer had to adjust the clamp around for a few minutes to get the best placement for the jewelry. Once the piercing healed (and then removed because I got bored of it) I found myself playing with it almost absentmindedly and, by the time I was 17-18, while masturbating. I don’t know why but, to this da, pressure and stimulation of my belly button gives me a very enjoyable sensation that I feel all the way inside my stomach and my vagina. The only attention it gets from doctors is when they do a regular external abdominal exam and happen to touch it or apply pressure close to it, and I am positive it’s not done knowing how it feels to me -it’s just on my stomach and they have to palpate it and they don’t dwell on it. Because of my various health issues with my GI tract these exams are pretty frequent and the casual, strictly professional navel occasional touch is probably one of the most fun things that I am at the receiving end of when it comes to healthcare providers getting near my tummy.

It happened a couple of times, since my bellybutton is pierced and my medic just checked it by moving the piercing around a bit. No big deal, but I really like my belly button and my piercing and my belly! 😃

Real Doctor - no.

Play Doctor/nurse/pro domme - I always ask for them to ”examine” my belly button with their tools, cotton swab, pinwheel, anything small and pointy (not too sharp). I really like the sensation, I think it’s the most sensitive part of my body!!
