Hospital gowns

I find the hospital gown to be very arousing both to wear and to see others wear. I guess I have a life-long fascination with the buttocks and the hospital gown is perfect to display them.

Has anyone had to wear one of these while in the hospital or doctor's office and had them be open in the back? I have had some experiences in my past and have recounted them a few times in these pages.

However, I recently had some health problems and was in the hospital several times last year and early this year. I have to say the gowns of today are nothing like the ones I wore when hospitalized in the 1980s. The gowns I had on were very generously cut and almost impossible to keep open. They were engineered in a way that even while untied, the fabric laid across the butt so you were pretty much covered. In fact, to have your butt be seen you would have to very obvious and deliberate. I have to say that I was feeling so shitty that I really had no interest in getting any thrills out of being seen. And my physique I think has declined so that not many people would want to see me anymore.

But when I was in the hospital in the past, the gowns were way flimsier and much more open. I think they're great to have in a MedFet clinic or session.

Anyone else have any experiences to share?

Back about 7 years ago or so when I had my first kidney surgery up in New York at Doc's hospital I ended up spending the night after what was supposed to be a in and out day type of surgery. My pain was not controlled so they kept me. They had me on a pain pump with I believe IV Dilaudid in it. Because they kept me down in the day surgery area the rooms did not have private bathrooms so when I had to pee I had to walk to the bathroom out of my room and down the hall.

Doc stayed with me that night until close to 3 am I believe, but during one of my trips down the hallway Doc took a picture of me. I had a gown on, dragging my IV pole/pump beside me and my gown was open. My tushy was hanging out. I remember Doc and the nurses giggling, and I was too. I don't know if he still has the picture or not? I think it's parked on UKGyn someplace maybe still.

But I agree with you, even as recently as 7 years ago gowns were made a lot smaller and came together in the middle of the back of you and tied. These days the gowns are made to almost wrap around you and tie on the side of you which almost guarantees complete coverage at all times.

Every time i see a hospital gown, i flash back to age 14, when i had my appendix out. They offered easy access for all of the shots and rectal temps that I got. I also think back to when my brother was 19 and wore one. His temperature was also taken rectally and he got shots there, too!

I am glad you still have a copy of that picture Doc. I remember that night very well. I loved that you left and got me the food that I wanted to eat. You are such a good boy.

@Mashie, Your brain must really have deteriorated. You sent me that picture and it is one of my treasured possessions.

@ruthiney, I definitely agree that hospital gowns to provide delightful access to one's behind for rectal temps and shots. I also remember being with my ex at the hospital when her gown was opened a few times a day for one of both of those.

@srg_rik I did forget that I sent you that picture, lol. Remember, since I have been sick I have issues with short term memory. They are getting better, but slowly. Well, you have made me blush a bit tonight. I am glad that you have it and enjoy it. We do need to get together at some point and go for lunch. Then you will be able to match my cheeks, to the other set of cheeks, lol.

I had to stay in the hospital a few days when i had a kidney stone 30 years ago. I had a gown with an opening in the back, but i believe i wore my briefs under it.

If it were today, i would go nude under it, like the older guy i shared a room with. Every time he got up to go to the bathroom, i could see his exposed derriere. Back then, i wasn't the nudist/exhibitionist I am now.

As the people have gotten more rotund, the gowns have gotten bigger to the point where in many normal sized people, they are complete wrap-arounds. When large patients are going for therapeutic walks in the hospital after surgery, they usually have TWO gowns--one that covers the front and a second one that wraps around the back.

@Switchablesusie Having just had surgery for a fistula I can confirm that I had to wear the double gown arrangement when I walked from my cubicle to the theatre. Although I'm not "large" in stature I got the impression it was a standard procedure.

I recall when I worked in the hospital that many patients wore two gowns, like you described. But not everybody. So I don't know why some do and others don't. Perhaps it's the patient's choice. I think sicker patients may have just had one to make it easier for the caregivers to examine, treat them. But my last time in I had the newer, bigger gown and the second one wasn't needed.

When I had my knee replacement six months ago, I had one of those larger gowns. They completely tied around me and when I went walking in the hall, I had no need for a second gown. Much nicer!!!!

I used a dress when I do surgery.

I had to have an MRI Brain Scan yesterday (5-19-17) and the nurses had me take all my clothes off in the dressing room and put on a hospital gown and robe. Nothing on under it, just socks and shoes. Guess they had too many going in for the MRI with things on that were magnetic, so now all test require that you strip down, put o n a gown and wear them in to ave the MRI.

I had to get an x-ray, and they asked me to change into a gown. I was naked underneath. I quite enjoyed the experience, as I like one piece clothing in general, but the medical necessity of wearing one makes it even better.

Recently, at least 12 years ago hospital gowns in my area went to 'wrap around,' with a double wrap around the back, and long. I've had those last few admissions. Before that, the gowns I got were 3" above the knee and met in the middle of the back with 2 ties, if you were lucky and one at the neck if you were not.. I suppose it was only for modestly in bed. As a teen I had a hand injury; every time I was helped out of bed the gown would ride up and everything would show in front; walking, everything in back would show. I remarked about the butt displaying style of the gowns to one of the nurses. She said they were designed by a German Seymour Heinie.

Radiologists seem to want to save money by buying skimpy gowns & launder them to rags. I had a Seymour Heinie gown with one tie at the neck for a barium enema. The table was freezing on my bare butt. Like nurses, I guess techs are used to seeing everything. Later when I couldn't evacuate the media, tech gave me an enema in the bathroom. Bending over for the nozzle the gown fell away, from my body, leaving me totally exposed.

The first time I wore a hospital gown, I was six. It was plain white cotton and fit like a tent. I was in the hospital for a about five days. I had a catheter in for about three days. I had a couple of other hospital visits as a youngster but wore pajamas except when I got a barium enema and x-rays. The gown I wore was a little on the short side but they gave me a sheet. Since then I have worn gowns for some day surgery and they were all large with good coverage. Gowns I've worn for ultrasound procedures have been a mix. Doctors office gown are not much more than a paper towel.

I've had a number of surgeries when I was a kid, plus about three in the last two years, so I'm definitely familiar with hospital gowns.

Personally, I dislike hospital gowns, although I have very little experience of wearing them. Maybe it is because I am genuinely hopeless at doing them up and securing the flimsy ties properly. Although I have had a great many medicals when I have had to be naked....I (fortunately) have very little experience of being in hospital.

A few months ago I had to go and have my hips x-rayed (minor osteo - arthritis). I was told to go into a very small cubicle, to take all of my clothes off (then put them in a locker & I was to keep the key with me) and then put on a surgical gown. I did all of this and the space was very cramped. Try as I might, I knew I could not fasten the wretched thing properly. I was embarrassed...not because of my nudity beneath it....but (how society has changed) because of my stupid inability to tie it properly...hence I did not want my potential nudity to offend anyone else.

And...believe me......the nurses were paranoid about it. I had one who accompanied me to the X-Ray room, another who prepared me for the X-Ray and then the Radiographer herself. They all made comments (mostly apologetic) about modesty and one nurse decided to do up the gown 'properly' (with my permission). Really, it was ridiculous. I could not have cared less, but I did not wish to offend anyone's sensibilities...and I just cursed my own hamfistedness.

In the UK hospital gowns are almost a waste of time. I had great difficulty in tying the cords so had to ask the nurses to do it for me. As well the gowns are, for me, quite short so getting in and out of bed leaves plenty to see so wearing underpants is almost essential.

For examinations at bed side it was simpler to raise the gown. Generally in the wards less attention is placed on modesty than if you were coming in for examination.

Radiology departments have a particular problem in that both patient genders are present so now and again you can see other people, generally with the gown not fully tied at the back. Generally underwear is worn for your lower half, but of course females have to remove their bras for the scan. I just started wearing non metallic clothing so was able just to get on the scanning table dressed as I was.

Could not agree more m1943. I suppose I could have kept my underwear on for the XRay? But...I was quite clearly directed to take all of my clothes off....so I did. The nurses genuinely were paranoid (no exaggeration) about me being covered properly!! Really..if underwear was allowed..then why did they not say so. I could then just as easily walked down to Radiology fully clothed and then just stripped down to my pants!! Rules are rules I suppose!!!

I had not ever given it much thought. I have now found that most NHS Trusts direct patients to wear loose fitting cotton clothing. There was actually no metal of any kind in any of my clothing. I could have stayed fully dressed.....yet I was specifically directed by a nurse in person.." Please go into the cubicle, take all of your clothes off...everything..,then put your clothes and any other possessions into the locker. Lock it, and bring the key with you. Then put on a surgical gown and come out when you are ready," She was quite adamant that I had to strip off completely and then put the gown on. I must check their guidelines.LOL

I just had surgery, last week, to remove some basal cell carcinomas from arms and chest. I wasn't sure what I'd be wearing for the surgery, since it was all just on my upper body.

When I arrived at the hospital, I was led to a space with a bed and curtains around it. The nurse told me to undress, take of everything, (she was adamant about everything off, and no jewelry, just my unadorned body,) and put on the gown laid out on the bed. She pulled the curtain closed.

I did as told, listening to the other patients in the other curtained off spaces around me. I couldn't tie the gown, so it was just resting on my shoulders. The nurse did it up for me, but just up at the back of the neck. The back was still opened, but I was in bed and they wheeled me to the pre-surgery area like that. I was unconscious by the time I reached the operating room, and not sure if the gown remained on, but it was on when I woke-up after.

After that, I was only wearing a gown for the time in the hospital, for a couple days. The gowns were uneven in the back, with the slit being more over to my left side. I thought this provided better coverage, even if left untied, but I found that still I was exposed if it wasn't held together. Most of these gowns were plenty long enough, for me at 6ft., but once I got one that must have been a small size, it only covered to just below my waist. Reminded me of a few times when that's happened at a physical.

My experience has been two gowns. One front, one back. Cozy. Walking thru public hallway to radiology.

I hate all hospital gowns . I go for follow-up CT scans and MRIs every year and the radiology dept where I go has several changing stalls with curtains and lockers outside of them . Then a small waiting room for after you change into the gowns and the x-ray rooms are about 15 feet away . I ALWAYS grab 2 gowns one for the front and one for the back . I also never tie the top ties because I dont like anything remotely snug near my neck . I do the same whenever in the hospital too .

Lord help me if I ever have to be put in a c-collar ! They will have to sedate me ! Lol

Have two open back tie gowns at home for play time when needed, have not had to wear a gown for a few years now when at the clinic

Many years ago an RN at a day surgery unit told me that she had given a patient with a poor command of English a suit bag for his clothes and a surgical gown. The patient left the change room in a hopping motion as he had zippered himself into the suit bag!
