I have a recollection of RTs that were in my growing up.
First time I saw a RT taken, it was a young Asian girl in the next room. Curtains on both sides of glass partition not drawn.
Walked in on my friend while she was face down on the living room couch while her rectal temperature was being taken. PJ bottoms, white panties lowered, thermometer sticking out from between her buttocks. Her folks, the Dr, and I were there. Why I wasn't told to wait or leave I have no idea.
I was offered "oral" or 'rectal" on more than one occasion. Always opted for rectal.
Had a (and I'm guessing) a 19 y/o "trainee" somewhere in the Midwest in an ER Dept. take my rectal temperature under the watchful eye of a registered nurse.
On more than one occasion, having my RT taken, I had ORAL Thermometers inserted!
I've had my RT taken with dual scale rectal thermometers.
A number of images on the Gallery RT portion, are ones I took years back.
Heard a RN tell a woman who'd brought her daughter (a late age teen) into the ER that the girl's temperature would be taken "rectally". (Didn't see it, but heard the commotion when the nurse entered the curtained exam area and obviously started the procedure.
I dated a nurse, who at the first sign of an illness; she'd bring me into the bedroom and take a rectal temperature on me.
Last, not that these are the only memories, but I have over the years come to know medical professionals from MDs to aides who were and some still are staunch supporters of the RT method, often using the expression..."The gold standard of temperature taking".
When I can, I'll try and add more memories.
