A number of members of this Forum have claimed to regularly take enemas of 4 quarts and to retain them for as long as one hour.
As a long time sufferer of IBS, I find that taking in 4 quarts is difficult enough to achieve, without having to hold this large amount for longer than a few minutes. I take this at night and I find that aiming for a full gallon, which I don’t always achieve on the first try, gives me the most lasting relief from my symptoms of bloating and painful cramps during the next day.
I feel that even for those who don’t have IBS, holding a full gallon with or without a balloon retention nozzle for one hour, must take a lot of practice and considerable willpower.
I would be very interested to know what motivates anyone to endure the discomfort of such a large volume enema for so long.
I know that some mothers have expressed how proud they are when their children have held 2 quart enemas for ten or fifteen minutes. Perhaps these children when they become adults experience a sense of achievement when they have exceeded their childhood volumes and retention times?
It has often been claimed that the retention of full enemas for as long as possible, can produce results at home which are equivalent to professional colonic irrigations. Is a more thorough cleansing the motivating factor for these experienced enema users?
(Note: IBS sufferers are known to have abnormally low serotonin levels.)
For those who do not have IBS, I know that the distension of the colon walls will increase the serotonin levels, which can lead to a feeling of euphoria and pain reduction. Some enlightened neurologists have recognized the benefits of colon cleansing in relieving the symptoms of migraine headaches and depression. Perhaps these effects are the main motivating factor for those who enjoy holding these full enemas for one hour?
