Surprise At First GYN Exam

I was very surprised about the breast exam. I went to the gynecologist to get birth control, so I was expecting a vaginal exam, but I had no idea why he would do a breast exam. I was new to the US and didn't know much about gynecological exams at that time. I was 25 and it was with a much older male doctor (60+). I remember he did quite a thorough breast exam. I am self-conscious about my breasts so I was very embarrassed by it.

@Nisha I am fairly certain the rules haven't changed in the last 12 years. You got what is called a TUBE

A gf of the past had her first unexpectedly from her GP with mom present prior to college

I had thoroughly researched what would be done beforehand. I was surprised by the sensation I experienced when the speculum was inserted and spread. The sensation after the speculum was removed was also somewhat unusual. It felt as if something was still inside my vagina. I had assumed that only virgins would be examined via the anus. When the speculum was removed, a finger was inserted into my bum. None of my friends had a rectal examination after the vaginal examination.

I was really surprised by how much longer the initial interview was and how direct the gynecologist was in his questions. Perhaps I came from a family that was a bit closed off about sexuality, and I really appreciated it, after an initial moment of confusion. Perhaps

all this helps you for the first visit, which, as the gynecologist told me, "is difficult for everyone, don't worry."

It was way shorter than I was expecting

My mom took me to her exams years prior so I kind of knew what to expect in terms of the pap smear and the breast exam.

What I was not expecting was a rectal exam since she didn't get one the times I went.

The doctor was super gentle and I was surprised I actually enjoyed it.

An awakening @Vzia ?

An awakening @Vzia ?

Definitely though I didn't understand it until years later

I was surprised at how grown up I felt. It definitely didn’t feel like the pediatrician anymore

@Vzia @PW1912 Do you happen to have a retroversed uterus?

@Vzia Do you happen to have a retroversed uterus?

@Jacana Yes I do. I've gotten rectal exams at the gyno mostly every time I go for my annual
