Mandatory medicals

Have you ever had to undergo mandatory medicals, either health authorities, government, military enforced? Would be interesting to hear about your experiences.

I had to for my first job. It was a public sector role and a preemployment physical was mandatory. After filling out the paperwork with HR, they scheduled the appt for that day and sent me to their doctor who partners with them. It was a pretty unexpected, but pleasant surprise

Yes my military enlistment physical was mandatory and done as a group exam.

My current job requires that I get a physical done yearly.

And how do you feel about it? Was it embarassing or humiliating in any way? Do you think it was relevant to your work?

Twice. Once in Junior High School during Gym Class in Grade 8 when we boys were all examined one after the other as we lined up in the gym, including having to lower our gym shorts and jockstraps for a genital examination and hernia check and a look at our anuses as we bent down and the nurse spread our butt cheeks. There was no privacy as we could see the person ahead of us being examined. Again in my graduating year at University. A dozen of us were examined at a time completely naked by medical and nursing students as we moved from station to station in a large open room for each part of the exam. Again there was no privacy as we could all see each other being probed and prodded.

As regards your two exams, it was not uncommon in a recent past to have such exams performed in that way

in what year did you have these exams, was it in a far past ?

I find a little strange that you were allowed to keep your gym short at the exam during a Pe lesson at grade 8 of high school as a junior while you were a group of 12 all naked for an exam at university being therefore older.

At junior high school grade, was the exam performed by a nurse with a doctor or only by a school nurse ? was the exam performed in presence of the Pe teacher or anybody else who came in the gym, or was already here? or were you exposed to the view of other persons who walked through the gym to go elsewhere ?

I presume that you might be about 15 -16 age ?

Do you were informed before the exam one day or several that you would have an exam in the gym ?

Were you forced to wear a jockstrap at gym lessons, so that you might lower it when it was time to have the genitals, herna and anus exam

I presume that it could have been much more worst since you could have been instructed to undress until jockstraps without being allowed to keep your gym short , so you would have been lined up with all butts completely exposed to the view of each other, funny and efficient to obtain a strict discipline or still worst all stark naked and waiting your turn in your birthday suit like at the exams in the army in a recent past

I've had three mandatory physicals, one at the militery pre-induction center, one for a at a workplace, and one my freshman year of college. The military one was conductred with pants on until the genital and anal exams, in which we were lined up naked. The workplace one had me in only a gown and disposable sandals. The doctor lifted the gown for the genital exam. For the freshman exam, I was told to undress completely by an old-school male doctor while he watched. I was then examined completely naked. The freshmen girls were requited to do the same.

I think everyone should undergo mandatory medicals, particularly during and before leaving schools, college and University

@esaterman. I was 12 years old at the exam in Grade 8 in Junior High School in 1958 (I had skipped a grade earlier in elementary school). We were told about the exam in the previous gym class 2 days before. Jockstraps were required in gym class. The exam was performed by the school nurse. The PE teacher was present to keep order but no-one else was in the gym. The exam in University was in 1978 when I was 22. We were informed a week before and told when to show up at the university health clinic. When we showed up we were scheduled in groups of 12 and told to undress completely in the waiting room before being called as a group into the large open examination room where various stations were set up manned by either student nurses or doctors. We circulated from one station to the next for various parts of the exam and could see each other. The final station was where we were given a TB test and told to return a week later for the results to be seen.

Throughout my career, I was obligated to take and pass annual physical exams to include comprehensive bloodwork, vision testing including depth of field and color blindness, hearing tests and spirometry testing along with a doctor’s hands-on examination. Always stressful days leading up to the physical as continued employment depended on good results.

Sports physicals were mandatory when I was in school. That's it.
