@turnheadandcough I have since infancy, all through my childhood and into adulthood have my temperature taken rectally (in my bottom) both at home and at the doctors office! 1. I am a mouth breather, severe asthmatic and a super sensitive gag reflex.
2. Other temperature sites give false readings. The ONLY accurate temperature reading is from my rectum!
I only do rectal temperatures!
Do I always like having my temperature taken in my bottom? Well no, not particularly. Especially when I’m really not feeling well but b/c of accuracy it’s the best way for me!
I can have a high temperature and oral, forehead or ear temps will read “normal” yet you take it rectal and I show to have a high fever!
For example; I was at the doctor for a sick visit….the nurse took
My temperature using the forehead method and it read 98.7 it was obvious that I was sick and had a temperature but the forehead thermometer read different. So I told her that just before I came I had taken it via rectal route and my thermometer read 101.9 so she rechecked with the forehead thermometer and then tried an ear thermometer both gave a reading of 97.6 and 98.6 so she went and retrieved a rectal thermometer….sure enough I had a 102.8 temperature! I ended up being diagnosed with a double ear infection and strep throat!
It was also that day my doctor put in my file that I am to only have rectal temperatures. Our doctor uses the forehead method (mostly for time and convenience) but in my case….rectal temps will always be done! They use the electronic type that is a probe attached to a hand held box with a cord.
I have always had my temperature taken only rectal so even at 43 it really doesn’t bother me. Unless I’m really feeling bad and then it’s not my favorite thing to do or have done but I go with it anyways.
