Five minutes as a minimum.

A glass thermometer for 5min. The digital one until the signal comes.

I keep it inserted a bit longer then the minimum required. For the Geratherm mercury free this means 5 instead of the minimum 4 minutes and for my digital one 2-3 minutes instead of stopping when it beeps at approximately 1 minute.

My old mercury thermometer had a minimum of 3 minutes but I switched to mercury free.

When I was a kid, I think mom would time 3 minutes or have me time 3 minutes! Again this was 40 years ago so my memory may be not that reliable. She may have left it longer when she left me with the thermometer inside, went away to do something else, and came back later.

I read on one thermometer we had at home that it was supposed to register within one minute, so I suppose she took some safety margin because of reading on clock and so on.

I am a 71 years oldman and I have had a strong rectal temperature fetish thoughout my whole life. My mother took my rectal temperature till I was 12, allmost 13. At my old age, I have come to consider rectal temperature taking as a way to make love, just like anal or oral sex, and imo a very intimate one.

Of course, I use good old ( preferably mercury) glass thermometers and I wont let those plastic digital thermometers or probes penetrate my ( or my RT partner's) rectum and pretend to give a reading in 20 seconds.

When I was a kid, My rectal temperature was usually taken with the thermometer inserted for 3 minutes, sometimes 5.
